Tuesday's with Morrie Setting and Musical
Tuesdays with Morrie Morrie says, “Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.” In Tuesdays with Morrie, Mitch Albom begins the movie as an overworked and stressed man who finds out that his favorite college professor, Morrie, just discovered his impending death. He goes to visit his old professor who discovers many things that Mitch didn’t know about himself. He realized that he is too busy and his work is taking over his life. He learns that he is afraid of so many things in life, and if compensating by trying to be successful in his professional life. Perhaps the most important things he learns is that he is willing and able to change his ways for the better. The various musical selections of Tuesdays with Morrie all evoke compassion. Mitch’s girlfriend, Janelle, sings backup as her career. She sings a few different times throughout the movie, but one time in particular showed her passion more than the others. When Janelle went to go meet Morrie for the first time, he asked her to sing. She sang a beautiful song to him with such love and passion that it even made him cry. Mitch told Janelle that he had never heard her sing like that before. Another example of passion in music in the movie was during Mitch and Morrie’s last session. Morrie describes his perfect day to Mitch, and when he begins talking about his friends, the music starts and quickly builds into an intense lullaby. The music shows passion because of when it starts, he is talking about how much his friends mean to him. Not only does the music in Tuesdays with Morrie show passion, but so does the setting. Morrie and Mitch spend the majority of their Tuesdays together in Morrie’s house. There they have many passion filled moments, one of which is the last scene, the scene where Morrie finally gets Mitch to cry and let out his emotions. The intimate, homey atmosphere and setting allow Mitch to fully let his emotions out without fear. Another example of passion in setting is

As the show goes on, Clara sings a song called “The Beauty Is”which is her telling you of what she's experiencing for the first time somewhere new. After she meets fabrizio, and he's fallen in love, he goes on to sing a song in full italian called “Il Mondo Era Vuoto”. This song is all about how Clara fills the “light” in his life that he was always missing. Its truly a beautiful and one of the most passionate songs in the show. The way it is written shows precisie emotions and you can almost understand the message without the text being sung along. Fabrizio asks Clara on a walk in the piazza. There, he serenades her with a fun song “Passeggiata” to show her of the place he knows the best, Italy. As Clara and Fabrizio's love grows, Margaret's and Roys (her husband's) dies. Margaret towards the end of the first act sings a song of falling out of love with her husband and reminiscing on the beautiful times they shared when they were in love by singing “Dividing Day”. This song by far is the most passionate, sad, and most beautiful song I have ever heard throughout the musical theater realm. There are many…

Tuesdays with Morrie is the story of a young man named Mitch and his old college professor, Morrie, reconnecting after sixteen years apart. Mitch and Morrie became very close in college, but after graduation they lost contact with one another. Later on when Morrie is diagnosed with ALS, he began writing aphorisms which his friend wrote a story about. This aphorisms got the attention of Ted Koppel, the host of ABC’s “Nightline,” and they decided to do a TV special on Morrie. When the episode aired, Mitch came across it as he was flipping through the channels, and he froze when he hear the words “Who is Morrie Schwartz?” from the tv set (Albom 23). Morrie’s ideas raise up a lot of questions. What makes an emotion? How are we able to feel emotion? It makes me think of The Giver by Lois Lowry. In The Giver is a society where all emotion is eliminated, meaning that humans cannot feel emotion. It’s very interesting to compare how emotion plays a huge role in both stories. Morrie is someone who has felt sadness, pain, and grief, yet people in The Giver never get to experience those emotions. I think Morrie is trying to tell Mitch to detach himself from his emotions because he wants Mitch to accept that life is short and that nothing is permanent.…

Love is an extremely powerful emotion. Kiera Cass, David Benioff, Taylor Swift, and Doris Lessing all use love in their compositions. In The “City of Thieves” towards the end of the book, Lev and Kolya’s bond is extremely strong. Secondly, in “The Siren”, the love between the Ocean and Kahlen develops throughout the story. Thirdly, in “Through the Tunnel”, Jerry expresses his love for his mother. Lastly, in Taylor Swift’s video Taylor loves her crush, and he develops the same love throughout the video. In The “City of Thieves”, “The Siren”, “Through the Tunnel”, and Taylor Swift’s music video, the author’s all employ dialogue to reveal love.…

In Tuesdays with Morrie, Morrie becomes sick and there is no cure for the disease. One realizes that sickness does not discriminate against any one person. It takes over whomever it chooses. Morrie does have a positive outlook the on entire process, “Everyone knows they're going to die, but nobody believes it” (Albom 81). Morrie has came to terms with death to continue living life to the fullest. In Night, death is everywhere. Veterans of the camp inform Elie that the camp at that time is paradise to what it use to be. The veteran says, “Back then, Buna was a veritable hell. No water, no blankets, less, soup and bread… We were collecting corpses by the hundreds every day” (Wiesel 70). Death surrounded all the prisoners of the camp. Elie had to face the most inhumanity there is-…

On Friday April 22, 2016, a couple of friends and went to see Mary Ward’s production of Meredith Wilson’s The Music Man. I thought the musical was amazing, It was a great story with a fabulous cast and well decorated sets. The female lead of the performance Felicia, was remarkable, her vocals gave me goosebumps and her acting was great. The hard work of the cast and crew was very clear from the performance. I must give props to Mr. Dalton for organizing, and putting on such a great performance. I would definitely recommend people to go see this.…

When the reader first reads this short story, it is puzzling and random, but as it is read multiple times you begin to understand Browns’ writing style and her unusual development. The reader starts to recognize that the songs represent certain moments of a person’s life when they are at a particular stage in love. For example, a person starts out alone in life, “’All By Myself (Eric Carmen)” (1). Then a person begins the torturous hunt for love, “’Looking for Love (Lou Reed)” (1). When a person finally finds that one person, they begin to become physical with one another and become even more attached to that one special person, perhaps hey even begin a relationship, “’Let’s Talk About Sex” (Salt N’ Peppa)” (3). “’I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend (The Ramones)” (4). The establishment of every relationship is the best part and the happiest time for the couple, therefore the cheeriest and sweetest songs are the beginning of this short story.…

As Mitch pulls up to Morrie’s house, he is multi-tasking: he is checking the time to plan for his return flight, he is listening to a radio talk show, and he is talking on the phone with a producer about one of his programs. When he sees Morrie sitting peacefully on his front lawn, though, Mitch feels the need to hide all of this multi-tasking from Morrie.…

As I was reading these chapters, Morrie talking about regrets had me start thinking about my regrets. A feeling I was getting that my past choices I made were very poor. My life could have been so much different if I had made better choices. I think that Morrie is right, today society does not encourage us to think about our regrets and that we need someone to point us to the right direction. Someone that will guide us along, advising us to not make the mistakes they made in their lives. Mitch already has this person, its Morrie. My prediction is that by the end of all Tuesday visits, Mitch will be a whole new person. Morrie will help him and make him realize that success in life is not just about making a lot of money. Morrie will explain to him how it is like to be on you death bed knowing you will die any day. Looking back on your life and realizing how everything turned out and that your life still is not over.…

Morrie sometimes knew what Mitch was thinking about or how he feeled just by the way he acted and how he talked. As Morrie become sicker Mitch started to help out more so that he could connect with him better. As Mitch worked all he could think about, was what are they going to talk about the next visit on tuesday. “If you really listen to that bird on your shoulder, if you accept that you can die at any time then you might not be as ambitious as you are” (Albom 25). What Morrie means when he says this is that once you find out how to die, you figured out how to live life to the fullest; by noticing the the littlest things in everything that you have never noticed about before. Morrie didn’t seem like a emotional person on the outside, but on the inside he cared very much about some things. Even though Morrie was very wise he didn’t always give the best advice; which makes him even wiser in some sort of way.…

Nagel wrote: “everybody dies, but not everybody agrees about what death is.” In this chapter, Death, Nagel explains some of the beliefs people have about death. One of his points was survival after death. Nagel said that if dualism is true we can understand how life after death might be possible. Each person would consist of a soul and a body, and the soul would have to be able to leave the body and function on its own. If dualism is not true, then life after death could not exist because mental processes go in the brain which depend on the rest of the body. Nagel believes that life after death might be tangible if dualism is true.…

I definitely believe in spirituality and fate and it was truly fate when Mitch saw the television and it mentioned something about Morrie. Then this started the Tuesday class sessions. Morrie's courage was very evident, he was not afraid to die, unlike most of us. Most people are terrified of death, and it is hard to deal with it, especially when you do not know when it is going to occur. However, Morrie knew death was approaching soon and he did not show fear. He continued to live his life as any other person would. Although he could…
