True Confession Of Charlotte Doyle By Avi's 'The Seahawk'
George Eliot once said, “Don't judge a book by it’s cover.”In the novel, The True Confession Of Charlotte Doyle by Avi, Charlotte isn’t sure who she should trust on board The Seahawk. One theme of this story is that she needs to learn to trust in herself, believe in herself and trust everyone else.

In the first quarter of the book Charlotte can not or will not trust anyone. When she was getting on the seahawk she thought that she was not going to be the only girl on the ship but then the other people could not make it. So she was the only girl on the ship and even worse she was younger than everyone else. Then meet Captain Jaggery Zachariah and they both wanted her to keep the dirk so she knew that people would be dangerous. It stated in the book. “If it gives you a sense of security keep it under your mattress.” …show more content…
Then Mr.Cranik got shot by the Captain ,and then Zachariah got whipped to death and then got thrown overboard. “Once more he paused, took a deep breath, until, with what appeared to be the merest flick of his wrist, the whip shot forward; its tail hissed through the air and spat against Zachariah's back.” So she did not know anyone on the crew that she could trust so she was just alone. The sexual abuse Adelaine experiences in her childhood lead her to not trust others, including those closest to her such as Ronny and Jimmy. As Robinson shows through writing “Queen of the North” in a non-linear way, Adelaine remembers incidences of sexual abuse from her past that are a constant reminder of the disruption of her childhood and of the trust her put in Uncle Josh and he broke.
