The story is all about Irene Adler’s cleverness and skill over Sherlock Holmes’ perfection in deception. Sherlock Holmes always spoke about her in a way of pride, and of course not jealousy. In Watson’s words, she was one of the few to be as clever as Sherlock Holmes himself.

The main part of the story begins in Holmes’ apartment where one day a man with a foreign uniform appeared to see Holmes.
