Trip to Disneyland
English Essay: A life changing moment.

By: Jennifer Christiana 10.2

They say life is a roller coaster. Sometimes there are good moments, and sometimes there are bad moments. But that one good moment, would always be treasured for life. One of those great moments would have been my time in the 8th grade. It may sound odd to some people, but for me it’s special. When friends were friends, and enemies were also friends it is the time when everybody got along.

When I first entered the 8th grade, I thought everything would be normal. Like those times in the 6th and 7th grade where everyone would just not get along well and so it felt like everyone would go through the same old choose a friend, make a gang and leave the others out. But that thought changed as I entered my class, 8E. Sure, there were a lot of those kids who were labeled the popular ones and some were labeled the in the middle and there were those that did not belong to any. There were only 5 girls in that class, including me, and the rest were boys, also before coming to the 8th grade boys and girls never really got along, instead there were things called “Boys VS Girls war”. To my own surprise, through the days of being in this class, through the days of being a part of those 5 girls and 20 boys, I started to slowly open my eyes to the changes. The whole class was friends and we helped together hand-in-hand as a team, as a class. It was a great moment that I do not ever want to forget. This class showed me what it meant to be “a proud and outstanding achiever” because to be one, you need help. An achiever is not an achiever if he or she could not do it alone. The support given from my classmates made me feel like an achiever, I felt like I could get through anything, because this class is a very special class. Not only that but it showed that everyone grew up and understood what the true meaning of friendship, group work, trust and respect.

Up until now, the thought of being one with my

Before I start with my speech, allow me to ask a very simple question. Have you guys ever complaint about your school, your teachers, or being a student? I bet almost 99.9% of you guys said yes. We actually complain a lot, over the smallest things and lack appreciation. And though this ceremony recognizes our efforts, it also recognizes and pays homage to the dedication of our parents and our teachers. We would not have been able to accomplish this much without their help. So today, in honor of all the students, thank you. You know, I never expected to be standing up here but here I am, giving this speech and probably doing a terrible job at it because if you couldn’t tell, I’m pretty nervous. But thanks to NAMS, it pushed me out of my comfort zone and onto this stage in front of all you wonderful people. Succeeding from middle school is no easy task, looking back it surprises me that I even made it this far. A famous author, Theodore Roosevelt, once said, “A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a collage education he may steal the whole rail road.” Even though we have a while to get a collage education, we’ve made it here, to the end of 8th grade. Just like a rail road the train has to be set on a good track, just like our education. So far for this 8th grade class, our tracks have been fantastic ever since we first started our journey. Our first stop was 6th grade. New building, new people, and it were a whole new environment. New fears emerged and I remember feeling like a fish out of the sea. The year went by and our next stop was 7th grade, which the teachers have been preparing us for. We came back much more confident than the year before. We looked down at the 6th graders and asked ourselves, “Were we that short just last year?” And by the end of 7th grade, we were on our way to 8th grade. The year started off at a sprint and it seems to have left many of us still trying to catch our breath but 8th grade is also the…

Hi, I am just your average student that is now in 8th grade. I know it’s a big transition from the underdogs to the middle level because you might think that you won’t be with your friends or the teachers will be mean. Let me clear your mind, you always think of the negative when you experience change but it’s not so difficult. Yes some teachers can be meaner than others and some teachers might not like you as much but that doesn’t mean you can’t make the teachers like you or make them see that you are a good student. 7th grade is the best year in middle school because you aren’t starting a new school and your aren’t just about to live for high school. 7th grade is the year that you don’t have to worry so much about your future…

Middle school was the time of finding new friends and getting involved in school activities. People around me were making new friends and leaving their old ones and started joining different sport teams. In eighth grade my friend group was separating into their own groups, they started fighting and just did not like each other anymore. I had to make a choice of which friends that I would stand beside, in making this decision I was scared that the other friend group wouldn’t talk to me. Choosing which friend group to go along with was very difficult.…

In middle school I remember being told that I will be receiving an award at our ceremony so I had to show up to the ceremony. I did show up and I remember being told to sit down in the front row. I did not think anything of it and was just there to be there. Then I heard them describe an award meant for the top student in that grade level and then they mentioned my name. I was so excited and so proud to show this to my mom and make her proud of what I have earned. It says alot about how much hard work I put in to school and sometimes I do not even realize it. It tells people that school is a priority in my life and it will continue to be one for my future education. This is what started it all for me, it showed me that I should strive for the…

    I. High school is the four years that students either anticipate or loathe entirely. I myself dreaded the thought of high school because it would be a new experience and worried whether the pressure to succeed would get me. In my first year, I was never the most popular or the best student. At times I felt like giving up and dropping out, but with help of family and friends I persevered. However, the person who deserves the most…

My freshman year was an important year because my teachers were pushing me more. Teachers were taking the modifications out of my assignments. Even though I still had my ESL support class, where they would still help me with my other classes’ assignments, I was on my own in the rest of my classes. In my freshman year, I could read, write and English much better and I felt confident in doing so. It wasn’t the best but it was my best. Sophomore year came and I was put in a regular English class, but it was 9th grade English. This made students make fun of me again because they I was the only sophomore in that class. Still that didn’t stop me because I knew how good I was doing. In my sophomore year I moved into the top 10% of class rank, which I was really proud of. Then my Junior year came, and I was nominated for an opportunity to be in National Honor Society. I was accepted and was part of NHS which means that I had to present academic awards. Lastly my senior year came and my hard work kept paying off. I was the only Hispanic guy in NHS, and then became the Vice-President. I also got Youth of the Year of my community. Finally, for graduation I was one of the three finalists for the Veterans award. All these accomplishments throughout my high school career meant a lot to me, to my family and to my…

I experienced new circumstances that I never had to deal with. On the first day, I heard people talking about the drugs they were going to do after school at the local gas station. Those conversations were not rare. High school opened up to experiences to me. I walked in not knowing a single soul. All my lifelong friends went to the local private high schools. Because of my family’s situation, I had to go to the public school in town. This school is one of the largest in the area. My graduating class had around seven hundred students. I went from a tiny middle school where I knew everyone, to this giant high school where I didn’t know a single person. I was forced to grow up. I had to come out of my shell and make new friends. Suddenly being on my own made me realize I was not a child anymore. I took this information and made the best of it. I learned how to be a leader in my community. I was no longer naïve to the world. These new surroundings opened my eyes to the real…

When I first came to this school, I was in second grade. I can’t believe I was at this school for 6 years. I can’t believe i’ve been here for about 6 years. I never thought I would be in Atwater for this long, since before my family moved. From house to house and I going from school to school. Throughout the years at Bellevue I didn’t have a tough time making friends, but the hard thing was watching them move away. Well some of them. The good thing is I still have those friends today, the ones I met through out 2-8. It’s also tough to see that most of the teachers I had are no longer at Bellevue or even not remember me at all. I loved all my years here, but I really loved this year. I believe that 8th grade is going to be one of the best school…

The most important thing I’ve learned throughout my middle school experience was that hard work pays off. Going into middle school was different from elementary school because there were higher expectations, more standards, more work, and much more people. But honestly middle school wasn’t that bad. It was easier than it seems. I learned that hard work does pay off because the more effort you put in, the more you get out. Whenever I had projects, research papers or essays to do, I’d always try my best even if that meant staying up all night to perfect it. Aside from school, I participated in extra curriculum activities which also required hard work. In my eighth grade year, I was part of my school’s basketball team. I wanted to try something new so I chose basketball. I never thought that I would enjoy it this much. After all the sweat,…
