Trees Our Friends
A true friend is one who stands by us during good times as well as bad times.Based on this criterion we may regard trees as our best friends, because they have stood by us for centuries, providing us with food and fuel, and meeting many of our other needs.

Trees serve us in a variety of ways. They provide us with medicinal herbs, fruits, nuts, rubber, oil and many other useful articles. They keep our environment clean and fresh. They use up the carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and give out oxygen. They give us shade throughout the year, and attract rain clouds. The roots of trees also prevent soil erosion.
Forests are very important in preserving the balance of the eco-system. They provide sanctuary to wild animals.Unfortunately, man has been indiscriminately cutting down forests. This has resulted in a considerable decrease in rainfall in some places, and has caused floods in others. The world temperatures are rising because of the decrease of the forest cover. It is said that in olden days,Rajasthan was not a desert as it is today. It has become a desert because of the thoughtless cutting down of trees.
Only in recent years has man begun to realize the great importance of trees.Trees are the lungs of the world, and without them, all species of life on the earth are bound to perish.
The only way we can save these faithful friends is by creating an awareness of the importance of trees amongst people.Tree planting, afforestation, and campaigns such as the 'Chipko' movement are some ways by which this goal can be achieved.Children should be taught the importance of trees right from a very young age.Forest land should be protected, and encroachers should be severely punished. For every tree that we cut, we should grow at least two more trees.
Every new residential complex or industry that comes up should be compelled to grow trees on its premises. The cutting of trees, whether it be for road-widening or for festivals like Holi should not be allowed at all.Children should be made

Deforestation is the cutting down of a large area of trees and the destruction of forests by people. Forests are what we call an exhaustible resource, one which can be used up if it is not used carefully. Over the last few decades, deforestation has threatened the rainforests with total extinction. To understand why deforestation is such an important issue, you first have to understand why trees matter. Trees improve in many ways the life of all species, including the human race. They help to maintain the Earth’s benevolent atmosphere, provide shelter for much biodiversity, but also have a high commercial value. As a consequence there is much critical debate around the causes and solutions for deforestation.…

First of all, trees are beautiful. If you have been over to Bedford Park or have taken a drive along the highway, the situation there looks pretty bad. During the past ten years, our town has grown. Trees have been cut down to make room for houses and office buildings. Shopping centers and new roads too. We and our families need a park where we can relax, play, and picnic. For us to breathe, we need trees secondly. If you plant more trees, you will have more oxygen. Trees turn carbon…

Out of the total geographic area of 328.73 million hectare of the country, the area under forest cover is reported to be 69.02 million hectare [22.9% of the total area] . Of which, about 41% is estimated to have already been degraded. Many of the degraded forests are also the habitat of some of the poorest of the poor in the country. The proportion of this population living below poverty line is significantly higher than the national average [e.g. 69% in south Orissa and 44% in Chhattisgarh]. These forest dwellers, living in the forest fringe areas, are heavily dependent on forests for their livelihood and thus are at conflict with the interests of forests conservation.…

Many of the world’s oldest trees, that are 100-300 years old, are dying. This is a trend happening worldwide. It’s happening in forests, savannahs, woods, mountains, cities, etc. The cause is human domination. We’ve been killing off these trees with pollution, deforestation, and other causes. This could really affect the world because other plants and animals depend on these trees for life, whether it be for food, shelter, or other needs. Large, old trees provide shelter for up to 30% of animals and birds in some ecosystems. Therefore, if these trees die out, we’d be looking at other species dying out too. It’s kind of embarrassing to see what humanity is doing to the other species of the world.…

The intimacy with forests has always been a refreshing and invigorating influence in human life. But modern materialism, greed and over-exploitation of forests have left the bitter taste of the fruits of prosperity. It has created a disharmony and imbalance in our ecology and environment, an evil that is being intensely realised now. The urbanisation and industrialisation on a vast scale, during the past few decades, have resulted in mass deforestation and depletion of the green cover. Forests are one of the priceless boons of nature, but human consumerism has created such a great pressure on forests that they have almost disappeared in many areas, resulting in…

Deforestation is clearing Earth's forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land. Deforestation is a problem that is caused largely by greed and want for property, money and possibly status. In many parts of the world the forest is taken for granted as a replenishable resource, which it is. The problem is that the trees cannot be regrown and replanted at the rate at which they are being cut down. For this reason the forests are declining at an incredible rate and there is no forseeable future for places like the Amazon which remained untouched for 20 000 years and now could be destroyed in less than a human's life time. Deforestation is a contributor to global warming, and is often cited as one of the major causes of the enhanced greenhouse effect. Forests still cover about 30 percent of the world’s land area, but swaths the size of Panama are lost each and every year.…

Notwithstanding the debt we owe to trees, their emotive power, and their importance to other forms of life, the forested area of the earth is steadily being depleted. This is leading to the degradation of the environment and the extinction of many species. There is now a real danger that in the not very distant. In future man will destroy a large proportion of the present population of species on earth, create an uninhabitable environment, and then die out himself. Trees are our country's wealth; we must consider it our sacred duty to protect them and to look after them well.…

The carbon cycle is one of the cycles of which is greatly affected by trees and the lack of trees would have a very bad effect in many ways. With the cutting down of trees there would be less photosynthesis and therefore there would be less oxygen produced. Also the lack of trees would mean an abundance of carbon dioxide as there would be no trees to use it up. And the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide would mean huge amounts of carbon dioxide in the air this would then cause global warming due to the greenhouse effect.…
