Trees are of tremendous value to us. They give us fruits, wood, herbs and many things of commercial value.

They are home to numerous birds, insects and animals. They provide shade to men and animals. They prevent drought and cause rainfall. They help in checking environmental pollution. They give us oxygen to breathe in and absorb the carbon dioxide. So, we should promote forestation.

Wood is the most valuable product that trees give us. We use wood in many ways. Wood is used as fuel and firewood. Wood is used to make furniture. Wood is also used to lay the tracks of the railways. Trees are good sources of medicinal herbs, lace and raw materials for many industries. We get resins, natural gums, etc. from the trees.

The bamboo is an important variety of tree which grows in abundance. It is of great commercial value. It is found everywhere. It is used as building material for making temporary shed. It is an important source of shelter for the poor and economically weaker people. Bamboo is used for making mats, fence, basket and various items of handicrafts. Bamboo is used as raw material for making paper.

Cane is another variety of tree which is used for many purposes. Mats, ropes and furniture are made from cane. Furniture made of cane is highly artistic, beautiful and costly. Lac is one of the most valuable forest products of India. It is used for making bangles and other useful items. We get honey from bees. Though honey is produced by bees, bees thrive on trees. Trees serve as fodder to different animals. Many insects, birds and animals live on trees.

Mother Nature,in her infinite wisdom, has gifted them to man to live in harmony with him and to be of greatservice to him.Besides fruits, trees provide important raw materials for our industries. Industries provide employment to people. The wood for furniture, housing, railway carriages and shipscome from trees.
