Travel to Fort Santiago, Intramuros
Travel to Fort Santiago, Intramuros

When I was in grade 1, I’ve already went to Fort Santiago in Intramuros. But I can’t clearly remember what I’ve seen that time because I was too young and I just wanted to explore with no particular task. But when I’ve returned in that place, it was very memorable because I’ve seen a very antique place for the second chance. I am really excited to return in that place because I wanted to take pictures with that old place but I have no camera in hand that time so I used the cameras of my classmates. When we are in the fort Santiago, the weather is so cloudy and it seems that the rain is coming anytime. The road is wet and slippery that time because of the rain. I can’t distinguish if it will be going to rain or the sun is going to shine because there was the sun but it is raining a little. We are only the visitor that time because it is too early in the morning. I am very amazed to that place because you will see the oldness of the place. The guards are suited with the old fashion clothing and I’ve really appreciate that. They are very friendly and they are willing to have a picture with us. The cannons are really attractive to my view because I am interested with guns and other things related to it. There are also stores of paintings and it is really beautiful. I saw the golden footsteps of Jose Rizal before he was shot to death. We counted it and there are 490 footsteps. His foot is large as mine but his footsteps have small distance to each

Death is a process of life that sooner or later everyone must face in due time. In his poem, “The Soldier of Mictlán,” Rigoberto Gonzalez describes the life of a soldier in the afterlife in a place called Mictlán, where most of the dead come according to Aztec mythology. His poetic techniques portray the fervent desire of an exhausted soldier to experience life again and leave behind the emptiness of the underworld.…

6: After seeing the images created by De Bry, my view of Las Casas has changed. When reading his account, I did believe what he said about the things he witnessed, but I still questioned his documentation since there were lack of other testimonies in his letter. The art De Bry created was based off numerous accounts by dispersed people across numerous locations. This helps give me proof that Las Casas’ descriptions are…

Some tourist attraction spots are La Cabana, El Cementerio de Colón, La Milagrosa or The Miraculous One. La Cabana is an 18th century colossus built between 1763 and 1774 on the east side of Havana harbor. La Cabana was used as a military prison. It hosts the Museo de Fortificaciones y armas and the engrossing Museo de Comandancia del Che. The nightly 9PM Canonazo Ceremony is a popular evening event where actors dress in full 18th century military regalia to reenact the firing of a cannon over the harbor. El Cementerio de Colón is known in English as Havana’s City of the Dead, in terms of history and architecture it is one of the world most remarkable cemeteries. La Milagrosa or The Miraculous One is revered by Cubans as their unofficial saint. La Milagrosa was once named Amelie Goyri, she passed away with her infant son who was buried in the same coffin as his mother, lying at her feet on May 3, 1901. According to The Baltimore Sun “ Her Husband, Eduardo Adot, was so grief-stricken that he would visit the grave as many as three times a day. He would leave flowers and knock against the cement burial vault with one of the four brass rings attached to the lid, as if to let her know he was there. As he left, he would always back away from her grave, so as to gaze on it as long as possible.” Custom and tradition says that one is to -knock on the grave -say your name and your wish - Lay down the flowers or a gift - walk away backwards away…

While many families of different cultures often share common characteristics and customs, the history and culture of the Hispanic family is significantly different from the typical American family. For example, it is common for multiple generations of a Hispanic family to live under one roof, while in American culture; it is typically just the parents and the children. In addition, when a female of Hispanic descent reaches the age of 15, she is considered an adult and a formal celebration called a quinceanera is held in her honor. On birthdays for Hispanic children, the parents hang up piñatas in the trees and challenge their children try to break it open with a stick blindfolded. Holidays and traditions also can be very diverse. A typical American family observes…

“Sor Juana” is a biography of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz written by Octavio Paz and translated by Margaret Sayers Peden. It is a book of 470 pages divided in six parts that besides Sor Juana’s life and work, explain the difficulties of the time for an intellectual woman. It was published by The Belknap Press of Harvard University Press Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1988. Reading this book gave me the best opportunity to know more about someone that although has been very influential in my entire life, I didn’t know all her history. My admiration and respect for Sor Juana started since I was a child and one of my sisters used to read her poems. Through my literature classes I knew a little more about her and the…

In the novel, The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, the author illustrates the life of people in Chile in the 20th century through the narrators Esteban Trueba and Alba Trueba. In this novel, the author’s purpose is to make the reader be conscious of how divergent the perspectives of the male characters are from one another. By stylistically choosing to use the literary analysis of characterization to characterize Jaime Trueba as selflessly caring, Allende creates a feeling of fondness and admiration in the reader towards him, and through her use of visual imagery, and contrast between Jaime’s view of charity and his father, Esteban Trueba’s view of charity.…

Chapter three of Delibes’ El Camino starts with Daniel expressing the significance of the valley where he has lived since he was born. He narrates from his perspective how the village seems isolated, but also, that it is connected from north to the south to both ‘la parda y reseca llanura de Castilla y buscaban la llanura azul del mar’, (Delibes 43) by the railroad and the road. He reflects on how him and his friend Roque would just sit and watch the village in the summer, and how Roque would reflect upon ideas that he normally would not admit to have after dusk. He also describes how the village functions, some of the people in it and the social situation.…

At the young, inexperienced age of nine, I was chosen by my school, along with 30 other students, to go on a six-day journey of California; this trip was called the Fourth Grade Heritage Trip. The purpose of the trip was to learn about California’s history and to explore new places. I was from a small city where my life followed a predictable plan, so this was very exciting since I was not accustomed to new places or the unexpected. When the day of departure arrived, I waved goodbye to my parents knowing I was about to experience something I would never forget. That was the beginning of a wonderful adventure; every day held something new. We visited many different missions and learned when they were built and how the people lived there. We took a ferry over to Alcatraz Island and faced the all-encompassing darkness of a solitary confinement cell. Other places we visited were the state’s capital buildings, the Sacramento Mint, and the Hershey’s Chocolate Factory. Each new location brought more insight and wonder.…
