Trauma Sacrifice
Engaging a client who is trauma bonded can be difficult for many reasons. The most effective strategy to practice, is meeting the client where they are. If the client is firmly trauma bonded, and wants to talk about the future they imagine with their significant other, allow them to do so. If the client is not yet ready to talk about their intimate partner as their ‘trafficker’, ‘pimp’ or ‘abuser’, do not force them to do so. Often in the earlier stages, service providers should focus on creating dialogue and building trust, more than focusing on pushing the client to the next stage.
