Addressing a group of educated civil rights lawyers about the legality of women's suffrage would require a formal explanation with details and descriptions. For instance, it would explain in depth the legality and the Congress that amended the Constitution and eventually ratification in the states. Whereas, a high school audience would not understand all the legality and terms of the law and a general explanation of the women's suffrage and its effects of changing the Constitution with the addition of the nineteenth amendment. In this way, the most significant difference in explanation would be that the lawyer (educated) group would not need a detailed explanation of the women's suffrage whereas, high school students would need an explanatory…

I believe we need to treat transgender people equally just like we treat heterosexual people. It’s not by choice they assigned a gender at birth. For them their own inner gender identity does not match the sex they were assigned at birth. The essay, Transgender Portrayal Representation in Media, shows that more than a half of people mentally got effected by the influence of the media. Misleading of media hurts transgender people.…

When infants are born, the first words uttered from the doctor is the sex of the child. As soon as the sex is announced, the baby is already perceived a certain way. By categorizing human beings into two different genders, male or female, you are limiting these people by gender roles and societal expectations. When doing this it causes harm to anyone who strays from their gender or sex assigned at birth. A term to describe these people is transgender. A transgender person is someone whose identity is not the same as their gender assigned at birth. Many other identifying people fall under this category. It is time to deconstruct society's views on gender and provide necessary rights to transgender individuals. Transgender people not being accepted into society is a significant problem in contemporary culture that challenges the traditional norms of the gender binary.…

Transgender people are some of the most ostracized people in our society. Many people claim that transgendered people have a mental disorder and they are constantly presented in media, not as actual people with real lives, but as punchlines to a joke. When we view people as jokes or freaks, we dehumanize them. This perpetuates a cycle of culturally validated violence against trans people, especially trans women. A national study discovered that 50% of transgendered people suffered sexual violence in their lifetime, which is a staggering amount. A large percent also suffer from non-sexual violence as well. Social scientist hypothesize that most of these rapes and attacks stem from transphobia, and these crimes are also overlooked. In many…

For the first time in this woman's life, she was coming face to face with a transgender woman. Her first inclination was to see the appearance of an amplified woman, with frilly clothing, glittery shoes, makeup galore, and long, beautiful hair. A walking Barbie doll, with a twist. To her dismay, she was entirely wrong, misguided by society and the media. It is not uncommon to witness uneducated individuals be completely led astray, due to their reliance on outside sources to puzzle together their understanding of topics new to the mainstream media. In the "Whipping Girl," Serano combats this terrifying reality by educating the world of the terminology, theories, and experiences often left out or dismissed when discussing the transgender community. Trans women face an enormous amount of backlash and criticism, which can be seen in feminists discrimination towards trans women, the misguided cisgender population, and the exclusive portrayal provided by the media.…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…

The issue of LGBT rights has always been an issue since the beginning of time. Since society sees members from the LGBT community as different and not normal, they are constantly discriminated against. America is supposed to be a country of freedom, but it seems as though whenever we discover something that we don’t like we figure out a way to try and make it disappear. However, I believe it is wrong to discriminate against the LGBT community. In the Constitution it states all men have equal rights, and I believe that should include everyone not just certain people.…
