During Road traffic accident, high jump, trauma to the outer lower limb, more pressure is created on the fibula bone. When this pressure is beyond the power of the bone will lead…

The quadriceps tendon connects the quadriceps muscles of the thigh to the kneecap and provides the power for straightening the knee. It also helps hold the patella in the patellofemoral groove in the femur. The patellar tendon connects the kneecap to the tibia.…
Iliofemoral joint is also known as the hip joint. It is the joint between the femur and acetabulum of the pelvis. Its primary function is to support the weight of the body in both static and dynamic postures. There are seven different kinds of movements are possible in the hip joint. There is flexion and extension on the spine and thigh, abduction and adduction of the femur, internal and external rotation of the pelvis, thigh or spine and circumduction of the femur or pelvis. The Iliofemoral joint is important because it enables us to walk and run.…
During a 12-week study examining conventional versus minimally shod runners, they found an increase of about 60% in the RAD in minimally shod runners and no change in the control group. The relatively stiff support below the longitudinal arch combined with a relatively stiff midsole in conventional shoes are likely to reduce the extent of stretch in soft tissues during loading, interfering with the natural spring like mechanism of the arch (Miller, Whitcome, Lieberman, Norton, & Dyer, 2014). That being said we can infer that the soft tissues of the foot are able to function more properly as a spring in minimal…
According to the project lead scientist at the RIC’s Center for bionic Medicine Levi Hargrove. This new bionic leg features incredible intelligent engineering. It learns and performs activities unprecedented for any leg amputee including transitions between sitting walking, going up and down stairs, ramps, and repositioning the leg while sitting down. The Army’s…
In analyzing a normal day of school or work, we use a countless number of muscles, ligaments, tendons, and many other anatomical structures in order to carry out normal functions. Walking, for example, is taken for granted by most people because it is something we need to go about our day. By not being able to walk, life becomes very challenging and a daily struggle to accomplish simple tasks such as going to class or getting around your living environment. One structure extremely important to walking is the ankle. The ankle brings together two very important structures- the leg and the foot- which in turn makes it a vital structure in itself, worthy of exploring.…

This study showed that excellent test-retest reliability of the perometer method (ICC(3,1) = 0.994). This shows that the perometer is a reliable tool which can produce stable and consistent measurements, thus any limb volume change observed clinically may be due to treatment effect or disease progression. This coincides with the consensus from other literatures that the perometer has high…
Hip replacements are result of disease or injury causing the bones in the joint to breakdown or joint pain. In some cases doctors will prescribe therapy, exercise or medication to either decrease the pain or improve the function, while the joints heal. But if the damage is severe and prevents daily activity, doctors may prescribe a hip replacement surgery. Normally, healthy and active individuals experience good results with this type of operation.…
This research paper was conducted around the topics of crush syndrome and amputation, which depending on the severity of the crush can coincide with one another. This paper will discuss various medical aspects, treatment, assessment, psychosocial/psychological issues and some research data pertaining earthquakes related to amputation and crush syndrome. Crush injuries can occur through the means of a natural disaster, acts of war, traffic collisions, as well as industrial accidents. Crush syndrome differs from a crush injury depending on the longevity of the prolonged and continuous pressure on the muscles and limbs. It is characterized by hypovolemic shock, which is an emergency condition in which severe blood and fluid loss make the heart unable to pump enough blood to the body. Crush syndrome is also characterized by hyperkalemia, acute renal failure and muscle necrosis (Donmez, D. Meral, A. Yavuz, M. Durmaz, O., 2001). A crush injury is the compression of extremities and body parts causing localized muscle and nerve damage. Crush syndrome is the presence of localized crush injury with systemic manifestations. The original cases of crush syndrome were reported during Sicilian earthquake in Messina in 1909, and in 1940 they reported that there was relationship between crush syndrome and acute renal failure (Donmez, D. Meral, A. Yavuz, M. Durmaz, O.,2001).…
