Introduction
Hindalco Industries Limited, the metals flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, is an industry leader in aluminium and copper. A metals powerhouse with a consolidated turnover of US$ 15.85 billion, Hindalco is the world 's largest aluminium rolling company and one of the biggest producers of primary aluminium in Asia. Its Copper smelter is the world 's largest custom smelter at a single location. Hindalco is having presence in more than 12 countries.
The acquisition of Novelis Inc. in 2007 positioned us among the top five aluminium majors worldwide and the largest vertically integrated aluminium company in India. Today we are a metals powerhouse with high-end rolling capabilities and a global footprint in 13 countries. Our consolidated turnover of USD 15.85 billion (Rs. 72,078 crore) places us in the Fortune 500 league (Hindalco, 2013)
History
The Company was incorporated on 15th December 1958, at Mumbai to manufacture alumina, aluminium and aluminium fabricated items. The Company was formed by the house of Birla’s in collaboration with the Kaiser Organization of U.S.A. According to the Company 's agreement with Kaiser Aluminium and Chemical Corporation, the Collaborators agreed to allot to the Collaborators 4,80,000 fully paid-up equity shares of Rs 10 each.
An agreement was also entered into with Henry J. Kaiser Company for such design, engineering
