Greetings from Team Cerebration
Thank you for registering for Cerebration 2009. Cerebration offers real life case studies of leading Asian companies that are focused on international/business expansion. These cases profile the strategic, operational, human and financial aspects of the company and look to give the participating teams a comprehensive understanding of the organization. While the focus of these cases will remain on expansion, each case study could also highlight multiple issues that need to be carefully considered by the participating teams. It is important to note that the solution suggested by your team should be able to actually add value to company’s existing position. The business plan should account for the current resources held by the company and focus heavily on financial feasibility. Cerebration offers you absolute flexibility to suggest product expansion strategies along with market expansion, if deemed necessary. The three-stage evaluation process with detailed feedback from the judges is a guided approach to bring out the best in you and align your output to the case sponsor 's expectations. Cerebration has drawn participation from the very best schools across the globe. The entries will be filtered through a process of robust judging by the case sponsors, industry experts and academia at the business school. The top 6 teams will be flown to Singapore for the Grand Finals, where they will present their plans to our case sponsors in the ultimate battle of Mind, Matter and Mettle!

Singapore is a wealthy island country, located in Southeast Asia on the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. Founded as a British trading colony in 1819, Singapore has become one of the most prosperous countries due to its strong international trading links. The inhabitants of Singapore enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the world, with per capita GDP equal to that of the leading countries in Western Europe. (Singapore Profile, Overview). Economic prosperity in Singapore is largely due to its highly developed and successful free-market economy, a remarkably open and corruption-free business environment, stable prices, and a per capita GDP that is higher than most developed countries. The economy depends heavily on exports, and the country is home to one of the busiest ports in the world (The World FactBook, Economy).…

Lush. Greenery. Justice. Freedom. Singapore, to me, means a lot more. What may seem to be a normal piece of rock to one, might seem like gold to another. We have to see Singapore as gold, treasure, and value it. The world is filled with uniqueness and differences. Singapore, being a little red dot, is filled with her own uniqueness. Although life in Singapore is hectic, it is filled with the pleasure of people and the contentment of solitude. Life in Singapore is balanced with both good and bad things.…

As Singapore is a small and relatively modern amalgam of Chinese, Malay, Indian and European immigrants, the culture of Singapore expresses the diversity of the population as the various ethnic groups continue to celebrate their own cultures while they intermingle with one another. For example, one can find a Malay wedding taking place beside a Chinese funeral. Global cities have become increasingly more popular over the past several years. They serve as busy sites of trade, steady workplaces, and overall international hubs. One must consider all aspects of a city’s well-being when deciding what type of urban area fits into this specific category. With a GDP of $2.8 billion and 100% urban development, Singapore is a city that is impossible to leave out on the list of what constitutes a metropolis.[i] The time they spent under British rule is what initially prompted the urbanization that led to the economic miracle we see today. They eventually became independent, and the government took extraordinary measures to ensure proper economic growth and modernization of their new city-state. This ultimately led to incredible manufacturing investments that heightened industrialization and attracted many foreign investors. Today, the high caliber of the society is reflected on its population by the demanding education and harsh laws. Singapore’s economic potential was introduced to the world while under British rule, however, it was not until after independence that its economic strategies, foreign relations and management of human resources proved it to be a world-class city.…
