Totem Pole Project
When I think of butterflies, I think of how beautiful and lovely they are. Although, sometimes I forget that they were once little caterpillars. Butterflies pass through a very challenging metamorphosis before they become these enchanting precious creatures. All the hard work I put into life will make me succeed, as all the hardships little caterpillars go through will make them into beautiful butterflies. I look up to butterflies because they work so hard to reach their goal. This is how butterflies represent my life.

I believe the most successful people are successful because they balance their life, between their work, health, home, family, and friends. Flamingos represent me because I too try to balance my life in the best possible way.

I can do anything I want. I have the freedom to be whomever and whatever I want. This freedom of mine symbolizes the freedom of a bald eagle. Butterflies do not start out as the colorful flying creatures they start as weak and limited caterpillars growing themselves. Then they begin their process as a chrysalis confined in a cocoon and undergo a transformation known as metamorphosis. The Mirabal sisters are like this too. Under Trujillo oppressive regime, most people, including the Mirabal sisters, felt confined. “I mean in my head after I got to Inmaculada and met Sinita and saw what happened to Lina and realized that I’d just left a small cage to go into a bigger one, the size of a whole country.”(Alvarez 13).
