Total Quality Management
TQM or better known as Total Quality Management is a tactic that seeks to enhance quality and performance of your products or services to meet or exceed your customers’ expectations, while ensuring that your employees are up to speed with their training. In other words it’s a “Management approach that works horizontally across an organization, involving all departments, employees, and extending backward and forward to include both suppliers and clients/customers.” TQM notion was developed based on the teachings of American management professionals corresponding to W. Edwards Deming, Joseph M. Juran, and Armand V. Feigenbaum, but they obtained very little success in the U.S; however in Japan, mangers embraced their idea strongly and ended up naming their highest yearly prize for manufacturing excellence after Dr. Deming. That’s why W. Edwards Deming is famous for creating TQM when in reality it wasn’t only him who improved the concept after the Japanese utilized it. Over all TQM is used in education, government, manufacturing, and service industries making it a widely used method to achieve the finest Total Quality Management conceivable.

One Major Manufacturing company that utilizes TQM is “Ford Motor Company.” Ford total quality management practices started in the late 1980s when Ford wanted to produce better quality products, stable work environment for the workforce, profitability, and effective management. Through their corporation with paint provider ChemFil, painting methods were developed to ensure that a quality product that meets customer’s needs transforms into financial success. As additional automakers emerge, the beginning of customer surveys was immense and from survey responses their came more quality based on customer needs. So by the 1990s, “Quality is Job 1” became “Quality People, Quality Products” as their new slogan.
Not only does TQM guarantee quality, it also considers the customers or the end result. While
