I think The Brilliant World of Tom Gates is a funny and easy book to read. Tom Gates is main character and is very creative and loves drawing pictures. All of Tom's teachers thinks he is easily distracted and lacks focus. All of the characters in this book are very well put together. This book is a book about a hilarious troublemaker at school. Tom’s best friend is Derek, and Tom likes Amy. Tom does not like Marcus, he even slipped some rude drawings into his notebook for parent night. Dude 3, Tom's favorite band is performing in his town.     32 “Well its actually happening ma’, I’m goin’ back to school.”Rufus said. “I want you to know, I truly am proud of you Rufus.” His mother replied. Curtis and Janet went to a different school then Rufus but he still walked them to school then walked himself to school. On his way to school a car followed him very slowly but Rufus kept walking. When he got to school it looked the same on the outside that it always had. Rufus pushed open the doors at Searingtown School and yelled “I’m back!” All of his friends ran over to hug him. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. His main goal is to get to know her better since their break up, and help cheer her up since Greg is a humorous guy. This is a person vs person conflict, mom vs Greg. Everyday, after school, Greg always sits on the couch, and watches television. His mom comes in everyday, just to see if he has called Rachel yet. However, Greg keeps on procrastinating. But he knows that no matter what, he will have to call her anyways because he can never ‘‘fight [with his] mom [since she] is unstoppable’’ (Andrews 55). Thus, Greg finally decides to call Rachel although he really does not want to. A week passes by, his mom checks on Greg and asks if he called Rachel yet. This time, Greg tells her that Rachel ‘‘won’t even let [him] say anything. She just hangs up!’’ (Andrews 54). Consequently, Greg is discouraged and gives up, therefore, he does not succeed since the first step on getting closer to Rachel is to call her and set up a date so they can hangout together.
