Toefl Ibt Speaking
When you take the Practice TOEFL Speaking sections in the Practice Tests in this book, listen carefully to each of your recorded responses. Create a set of guiding questions to help you evaluate your performance. Here are some examples of the kind of questions you may want to include:

Did I complete the task?
Did I speak clearly?
Did I make grammatical errors?
Did I use words correctly?
Did I organize my ideas clearly and appropriately?
Did I provide a complete response?
Did I use the time effectively? Once you have completed your evaluation, decide what changes you want to make to your response. Then try again, making a new recording. Compare the two recordings and determine if any further revisions are necessary.

Try to periodically analyze your strengths and weaknesses. Try to understand what you are and are not able to do well and why.
When you monitor your speaking practice, try to evaluate the pace of your speech. After each practice, ask yourself the following questions:

Did I speak too fast?
Did I speak too slowly?
DidI pause too often?

You may want to monitor your own progress by keeping an audio journal, which entails keeping samples of your speaking activities or practices. You can also ask for feedback from one or more friends, tutors, or teachers.

Hello, the topic I have chosen to talk to all of you about today is not only appealing but also particularly relevant to all of us in the room. The term ‘Child Abuse’ may seem straightforward to everyone here, but it isn’t so clear-cut, there are many other ‘sub-topics’ which branch out of child abuse like for example: Bullying and Child Neglection. It is often overlooked and taken as a joke by many people and communities, and this isn’t right at all – the abuse of children is an extremely solemn and serious topic… Child abuse is the physical, sexual or emotional mistreatment or neglect of a child or of children; and it is important for all of us to recognize the dangers, causes and effects of this unpleasant experience … because the miserable truth is that we have no insight into our futures … Who knows? Any one of us could be experiencing this cruelty now or may know people who are in this situation later on in their lives ……

Hello and welcome back to The Australian Arts and Culture Program. I’m Shannon Yu and today, we are revealing one of the world’s bestseller novels, published in 1960. This novel was an immediate success as soon as it was published, winning the Pulitzer Prize and becoming a classic of modern American literature: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This novel was based on her life when she was 10, during the after the Great Depression.…

The speech I chose was on September 9, 1997 from Queen Elizabeth II after Princess Diana’s death . The speech was more of an informal speech of her willingness to open herself up to the people of England during this great tragedy. The speech was effective in giving the queen a chance to show her compassion during the mourning of Princess Diana and this softened her image to the British people. The speech was something the public would not have been familiar with. The British thought Queen Elizabeth had an estranged relationship with the princess. I didn’t see any research in this speech. I do believe it was pressure that drove the queen to a public speech.…

The early twentieth century represented a time of hardship and struggles throughout Europe. In 1915, at the onset of World War I, Austria-Hungary centered at the heart of this turmoil. This societal angst eventually translated into/became the individual alienation that lies at the center of Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis. The protagonist Gregor Samsa’s shocking change into a bug reflects this angst felt by Kafka and his own perception of the world – and his role in it. As a bug, he cannot provide for his family any longer, and therefore becomes excluded from familial affairs. The family adjusts to his plight by taking on extra jobs and admitting boarders into the home for extra financial support; all the while, Gregor becomes victimized by the coldness of his newfound world. In a period where everyday living presented a daily fight to survive, the family could not lament Gregor’s absence for too long before worrying about personal wellbeing. This coldness of that era is incorporated through Gregor’s dire situation and in turn, the family’s cold reaction indicates the “survival of the fittest” theme evident in families during that time. Kafka employs depressing language and style, a three-part structure to the novel, and an extended metaphor to shape the belief that in a world filled with conflict, regardless of family ties, only the fittest will endure.…

Watching my speech, I noticed many delivery aspects that I did not realize about myself before, both vocally and non-verbally. Several vocal techniques I used, such as pacing myself when I spoke as well as using the appropriate volume and pitch for the class size were executed well. Also, non-verbally I used my hands to gesture while maintaining great eye-contact with the audience. I had some strength to my speech but there were some things that I could have and plan on doing to improve my speeches in the future. For example, a vocal aspect I noticed that I did not do well on was pausing during my speech. I would literally go from one topic or example to the next. Also, non-verbal improvements that I will make will consist of utilizing the space more and making sure I am not stagnant in one area or spot. I did move from one side to the other but I only did this once and in the future I will move around more.…

    1. The university is planning to spend a huge amount of money on building a new sports complex because they want to draw the attention from more high-level students. And also, they are really hoping to strenthen the tie between the university and the local community. But the woman thinks it's a terrible idea. She thinks that spending money in such places as the library and cafetiria, which top students obviously care more about, is a much better choice compared with wasting it on building sports complex. Besides, it's not going to help strengthen the relationship because people didn't come to games because they hated to watch the teams losing, not because there weren't enough seats.…
