Today and Tomorrow
Today, The school. Tomorrow, The world.

If I were to choose between the 3 components of NSTP, I will choose Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS). Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) refers to the Program component or activities contributory to the general welfare and the betterment of life for the members of the community or the enhancement of its facilities, especially those devoted to improving health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and moral of the citizen and other social welfare services. I chose this because students like me will learn more about the importance of consciousness and volunteerism in our society. The students of CWTS will learn also new things, like, how to be a good citizen in our society, how to take good care of nature, how to help others and how to value time. Having knowledge about this program will help us to do volunteer work and know what is the real meaning of social responsibilities. We should apply to ourselves all learning and information that we can get from our professor, and by these we may also share this to other people. Teaching others may help us to gain confidence with ourselves and develop skills in communication. Studying and understanding the importance of CWTS, will examine our integrity, moral and social values, discipline, and patriotism. For me, I find this program interesting. But there are times, that I find this boring. Because, teenagers like us wants to have an exciting and fun life. We may misunderstood or ignore this program because some of us don’t care about what’s happening in our society today. However, there are also some reason to encourage ourselves to study this kind of program. Because we may achieve true happiness by caring for others, and helping others. For example, by willingly doing volunteer work, why? Because, Volunteering helps expand our knowledge by learning about ourselves and the community. We become grateful with what we have and develop to be content

My poem is by Tupac Shakur. This poem is titled “And 2Morrow”. He was an activist of violence and gangs. So in this poem Tupac discusses the downs of gang-life. Tupac wrote this poem in a text message way of writing. He spells “tomorrow” “2Morrow”, “see” “c”, and “to” “2”. I believe he did this because he was speaking to his audience, gang member or soon to be gang member, in their language. Tupac is not illiterate so he spelled all his words correctly in the last stanza of the poem.…

As a parent I have become concerned about the new state-mandated, textbook-based curriculum for Kindergarten. I have decided to write a letter to the school board to protest the new policy. In the letter I will define DAP, the benefits with examples, why I believe the use of the textbook-based curriculum may be inappropriate. I will give reasons for the potential negative effects of the textbook-based curriculum and how it can be developmentally inappropriate to literacy development. In my closing argument I will suggest an alternative approach to developing literacy skills.…

This course works to help students become engaged in the community and work to fulfill President Fry’s dream. This course pairs each student with an organization that is in the immediate area around Drexel, and the type of service varies from class to class. I felt that it was important to include this course as one of the main ways that Drexel is civically engaged because it helps teach students about the needs of the community and allows them to become a citizen of the surrounding area. I have personal experience with the Wright Recreational Center, one of the partners that works with Drexel. This is an after school program that allows for the students to interact with Drexel student, receive help with homework, and have some fun in the gym. This has been an eye-opening experience for me because it demonstrated the importance of getting involved in the community through the smiles and laughter during my short experience. The kids were ecstatic that Drexel kids would be helping them, showing how much a small gesture could really make on someone else’s…

A theme that I found important in the extended text Tomorrow, When the War Began, by John Marsden was change. Change is when people have things happen to their circumstances and are forced to think or believe differently. Change was important because it was a dominant theme in the novel as the characters – young teenagers – were forced to cope with the devastation of their lives and their environment caused by war. The theme of change is also important because it is something that affects us all at some time in our lives. We never know what the outcome will be for us, and just hope that our personal skills will make us resilient enough to cope with whatever life brings us.…

Hinds honors civics class. As one student started to do this assignment, she found it difficult because she has never encountered this type of assignment before. As the student started to do this and progressed through the assignment she found many unique characteristics about her community and herself. She learned that one person can make a difference on many levels of scales. She found out that even though there might be a small action done, it can form into something that has an emotional impact for others in a powerful and effective way. The effect can diffuse farther than who she is trying to assist. A teen that is working to help others is inevitably motivating to others, and will start a fire in others that can endure for a long time. Teens that start helping others, will have the authority to feel self-confident as they work to help others as they go through their life. The student decided to volunteer at Lakeside Baptist Church. The heads there assigned that she be at the church early in the morning on Saturday to help with the yard sale. Unlike the other courses at a more theoretical level, “Community Service” is a kind of educational approach, which can link the knowledge obtained inside our classroom to the real-life experience properly. As far as I am concerned, it doesn’t matter how many hours we put in our communities, but our passions and good intentions decide how much we can benefit from community service.…

My volunteer work relates to the Civics course, because I was responsible as a citizen, such as helping children around me in the community. I assisted in providing a safe learning environment for youth. For example, I had to always make sure that no one was hostile to each other, and made sure that everyone respected each other. In addition, I taught them various skills, such as teaching children how to read and write. As well, I taught them how to play sports. Overall, I helped with their academic education which is crucial for a positive…

“Impressions, what’s left behind when I leave the room,” is a quote that I found on a picture about a year ago and which I have added to my signature with all outgoing emails at work. The author is unknown; however, the quote immediately felt like a reflection of me. Since completing an associate’s degree in nursing more than 10 years ago returning to school has been an aspiration of mine. Even though personal and professional growths were unveiled everyday throughout this program, there were some uphill medical challenges faced. Nevertheless, I hope to sustain both personal and professionally growth as I continue my journey towards educational independence. This paper will be broken into three parts; of which the subject will be the reflections that I have had on where I was, where I am now, and where I see myself in the near future in regard to learning, growth, development, and many other topics.…
