At the time the new deal should have been set before the depression, making it the old deal. Once FDR won the election of 1936, there was a lot of responsibility and pressure to fix America. He successfully guided us through it and World War II, making him one of the greatest presidents. He changed our nation and government with his many programs from the new deals.
