Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, all of the evidence we have heard has come to a decision to ruin this Negro’s life for something he has not done. He is being separated from his family just because someone cannot speak up and say what truly happened. Can you, the jury, not see that the evidence given by Mr. Ewell, Ms. Mayella, and Mr. Heck Tate clearly does not match with Mr. Tom Robinson’s testimony? The accusations that have been made towards him are not possible, and they could not have been done by a person who only has the use of his right hand. I truly believe Ms. Mayella is a victim of poverty and ignorance. But my defendant is not guilty but someone in this courtroom is, and what they are doing to this Negro is inhumane. People, what kind of society do we live in? Where racism is being brought. Racism is a thing where people hate and despise a person different from them. Don’t let your prejudice ways get in the way of doing what is right.
Why can’t you, the jury, open your eyes to reality and realize that Mr. Tom Robinson does not have the ability to hurt Ms.Mayella, he is physically incapable of such thing. He only has the use of his right hand. His left hand does not have the strength to do so. The damage done to Ms. Mayella was done by a person who has excellent use of both hands but specially the left hand who in this case, is not Mr. Tom Robinson. Mr. Hectate testifies that Ms. Mayella had a black eye on her right eye which would make no sense if it was done by a right handed person. The marks all around her neck show that the person had very strong use of both hands, how could he have done such damage to her with one hand this all makes no sense. What is it going to make you the jury, and everyone realize this Negro has done no harm to Ms. Mayella.
Have you wondered why Mr.Ewell hasn’t taken Ms.Mayella to get checked on her injuries? That raises a lot of suspicion about Ms. Mayellas injuries and being raped. Getting checked by a doctor can reveal many things about what truly happened, which Mr. Ewell doesn’t want reviled. If a parents daughter was raped and beaten just like Mayella, they would show they cared by taking her to the doctor and checking if she’s fine instead. That proves that Mr.Ewell has the advantage over Tom Robison so matter what case there in. All my evidence shows that there’s no prove that Mayella was raped and beaten by someone as incapable as Tom Robinson.
Tom Robinson shows no interest in biting or raping Mayella because he has a family of his own and a loving wife and children and Mayella is a lonely, sad young lady who needed a man’s attention. She testifies herself that she always had Tom Robinson over whenever she saw him to fix something up. Out of all the times he went to Mayellas house he had never done any harm to her purposively until now. Why would he choose to rape and beat her now? Mayella always needed things to be fixed by Tom Robinson yet Mr.Ewell doesn’t help. This shows how Mayella tempted a Negro who is taking the consequences of Mr.Ewell. Tom Robinson was an easy target for Mr.Ewell to blame for all his miss fortunes.
Words have been said, to accuse this Negro for beating and raping Ms.Mayella. Even though I know you the Jury can see that accusations done towards Mr. Tom Robinson clearly don’t match him in many ways, you are still accusing him. It’s clear as water that Tom Robinson’s left hand isn’t capable of beating or doing all the other things he has been accused of, it’s impossible to say just his right hand had done so much damage to Ms.Mayella. Not just that but Mr.Ewell can’t show a little bit of care and love for his daughter by taking her to see a doctor, if he really cared about her he would have taken her to a doctor and then worried about accusing the man who had had hurt her. Tom Robinson is a man with a lovely wife and children, why would he be interested in a lonely and sad woman like Ms.Mayella.What is being done to Mr.Tom Robinson is inhumane and races.
