To kill a mockingbird

"She was white, and she tempted a Negro. She did something that in our society is unspeakable: she kissed a black man.” In the book To Kill a Mockingbird a rape trial takes place, between Tom Robinson, a black man, and Mayella Ewell, a white women. Though most people believe Maylla because she is white, I believe Tom is not guilty because of the lack of medical evidence, lack of witnesses, and the fact that Tom Robinson was crippled in the left arm. The lack of medical evidence proves Tom is innocent because the only people who seen her bruises and who were there after she was hurt was Bob Ewell (her father) and Heck Tate (town sheriff). But Mr Ewell And Mr Tate did not call a doctor nor did they yell for anyone to call for a doctor. The way Bob Ewell and Heck Tate talked about Mayellas bruises in the trial; she was hurt very bad with multiple neck bruises, sounded like she needed a lot of medical attention. So why did no one call for a doctor? What father doesn't call a doctor after his daughter is beaten and raped? When Tom Robinsons lawyer, Atticus Finch, asked "didn't you think she should have had a doctor, immediately?" Mr. Ewell said "he had never called a doctor to his'n in his life, and if he had it would have cost him five dollars." The real reason Bob Ewell did not call a doctor is because he knows Tom Robinson did not actually rape or hurt her, he beat her himself and then in court she said that to gather pity for her and her family. The doctors also would have been able to tell that she was not raped and would have been able to see that Tom Robinson could not have done this. The lack of witnesses also proves Tom Robinson is innocent because Bob Ewell was the only one who claimed to see Tom Robinson raping Mayella. "that black nigger yonder ruttin' on my Mayella!," But who are we to take Mr. Ewells word over Toms? Tom says Mayella kissed him and when Bob Ewell appeared at the window, he ran out the door frightened and over heard Mr. Ewell yelling "You goddam whore, I'll kill ya," at Mayella. We have a black mans side and a white mans side but no evidence of either of it happening. This shows Tom Robinson can't be guilty because no one else seen Tom raping or hitting Mayella. The last reason Tom Robinson is shown not guilty is because Heck Tate and Bob Ewell say Mayella was bruised and beaten on the right side of her face which means a strong left handed person would have to had beaten her. Well as Atticus points out, Tom Robinson is crippled in the left arm while Mr. Ewell is left handed. Also Mr. Finch asked Mayella if Tom hit her and she said ""No, I don't recollect if he hit me. I mean yes I do, he hit me... Yes, he hit--I just don't remember, I just don't remember... it all happened so quick." She contradicts her statement over and over and it becomes unbelievable. Tom Robinson being crippled in the left arm is inconsistent with the evidence because Mayella was beaten by a strong left handed person, someone like her father. Tom Robinson was not proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt because there are many inconsistencies in the trial. The lack of evidence, lack of witnesses, and the fact that Tom Robinson was crippled in the left arm all prove that Tom was innocent. The evidence also points more towards her father and Mayella wanting attention for their family. So why was Mr. Robinson put in jail when he was not guilty? Because he was a black man putting his word against a white man. Tom Robison is innocent.
