This essay is on the novel 'To Kill A Mockingbird'. In the novel there is many situations that are injustice.
In the town of Maycomb Alabama, there are many different races such as, the Negros (Calpurnia ),The whites (Fintch’s), and the pale skinned (Boo Radely) . They all come from the same place, and have the same color blood but yet they are all rated and treated like they are from different planets. The town of
Maycomb proves this by looking at people differently if they don’t, look, or act the same as everybody else. In the novel Atticus finch is looked at differently by others, only because he has a black women as a house keeper. The people of Maycomb even called him a “Negro lover” (Lee 107). But not only because he has a black house keeper, it’s also because he is defending Mr. Robinson in a court case to prove his innocence. It’s not Finch’s fault that he sees everybody equally as a whole, instead of how the rest of
Maycomb sees the black people, like lower classes.
Tom Robinson is treated un fairly in the case of the alleged rap Mayella. The town of Maycomb, before even hearing the trial, thought that Tom did indeed rap Mayella. Even during the court case Bob Ewell said,” I seen that nigger yonder ruttin’ on my Mayella “ (Lee 231). What is Mr. Robinson to do, he is just trying to prove his innocence to the court, when Mr. Ewell just calls him a ‘Nigger’. This is injustice because; the man is a human, nothing more nothing less. He has eyes, ears, a nose and a mouth like everyone else. And even though it was almost certain that Tom Robinson had won the case, he actually ended up losing. It’s not his fault can’t choose the color of his own skin; he was just born like that. It’s unfair to treat a man like that who has no control over the color of his own skin.
Boo Radley is another victim of injustice in the novel. He is believed to be some sort of monster looking kid, that’s ten feet tall, big and scary, almost mythical looking man. Yet the people of Maycomb haven’t even seen Boo Radley, they only judge him by what they heard. But the kids are the ones that are being affected; they are the ones that are scared to go near his house at night. And what do kids do? They ask questions, so Jem asked Miss Maudie why is Boo Radley so dangerous and what had happened for him to be considered dangerous. Miss Maudie answered, “He shot at a negro in his collard patch. He didn’t hit the Negro, he shot in the air. Scared him pale, though. Says if anybody sees a white Negro around, that’s the one. Says he’s got the other barrel waitin’ for the next sound he hears in that patch, an’ next time he won’t aim high, be it dog, nigger, or- Jem Fintch!” (Lee 72). It’s not fair to judge someone just by the stories you hear, because when Boo took Scout away from the fire and wrapped her in a blanket;
Scout wasn’t afraid. In that situation she found that Boo wasn’t as bad as the he seemed by all the stories she heard.
As stated in this essay it’s shown that the town of Maycomb is injustice by the way people are treated unfairly, because they are slightly different from everyone else. Atticus was just mistreated, because of his house keeper, and for who he was sticking up for in the court case. Mr. Robinson wasn’t given an honest trail, just because his skin color was different. Also Boo Radley being thought about in bad ways, only by the stories people had heard. The only thing left to be said is that, you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. WORK CITIED

In Maycomb, whites are superior to blacks. They have nicer homes, better education and more money, and because of this the whites are intolerant of the blacks. Tom Robinson, who was only trying to help Mayella Ewell out with her chores is convicted with raping her, without any of the powerful white community stepping in to protest. This demonstrates how the honest Maycomb citizens fear being targeted if they help out a Negro. The way in which the jury passes a verdict with only hearing circumstantial evidence, shows their intolerance and hate towards blacks, they are pleased convicted a black man without reason. Atticus, who stands up against all the racial intolerance when he does not refuse the Tom Robinson case, is quickly called a nigger lover. He is doing his duty as a lawyer to represent Robinson as an equal human being, but he is called a nigger lover because no one is able to see Robinson as an equal because of the intolerance they grew up with. The night when Jem, Scout and Dill try to sneak around on the Radley porch, and then Mr. Radley comes out with the shotgun shows another instance of intolerance from the Caucasian population of Maycomb. When Mr.Radley relays the story of what occurred in his collard patch, no one debates the fact that it's a black man when Radley states that there was "a nigger" in his…

Mockingbirds are placid, blissful, and vulnerable animals. They do not harm anything or anyone. Killing a mockingbird resembles sin to many people throughout the entire novel. In To Kill a Mockingbird many characters can be characterized as being a mockingbird, including: Tom Robinson, Arthur (Boo) Radley, and Charles Baker Harris (Dill). Mockingbirds do not deserve any form of harm or pain in any way, shape, or form. Innocent humans do not deserve to be abused or threatened by anyone or anything.…

Being a Black man in Maycomb, Alabama was difficult; Maycomb was a racist town with people who did not want the Blacks to be equal to the Whites. People discriminated Robinson’s race to the point where his race was what defined his character. The Whites in Maycomb had a mentality that all blacks were not to be trusted. This affected Tom Robinson because during his rape trial his lawyer, Atticus Finch states “. . . You know the truth, and the truth is this: some Negroes lie, some Negroes are immoral; some Negro men are not to be trusted around women—black or white. But this is a truth that applies to the human race and to no particular race of men.” [Lee, 48] Atticus was trying to say that we need to judge people as individuals rather than by their race. Robinson’s race caused him to be discriminated against by the Whites in Maycomb, in particular Bob Ewell. Bob Ewell had seen that his daughter had kissed a Black man and was very upset. He said "I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin' on my Mayella!" [Lee, 84] Because Robinson…

Tom Robinson is cheated out of his freedom, out of his life, because a young white woman “tried to put the evidence of her offense away from her.”(272) No one should cheat any who is lesser than themselves. Under the social ladder the black people of Maycomb are right at the bottom next to people like Mayella Ewell and her father. It’s so easy for them to be belittled, because they are socially beneath them. To the white citizens everyone beneath them is bad, and it’s easy to lie on someone who already assumed bad. Atticus says it best to the gentleman of the jury. The jury would go along with what the young white women and her father told them based on the “the evil assumption- that…

I am writing to bring to your attention the unfair trial of Tom Robinson. I think we all knew that the jury would say that he was guilty of the crime, but was he really? I don’t think he was, and I hope you and the readers of The Maycomb Tribune will help me fight this injustice. Good people like Atticus Finch, tried to prove the innocence of Tom Robinson. The real criminals here are Mayella Ewell and Bob Ewell for taking a man’s life simply because he was colored. Remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.…

I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I am on page 281. This book is about racism, which is showcased in a trial. A low-class white family, the Ewells, are suing a black man, Tom Robinson, on accounts of raping Mayella Ewell. The case mostly boils down to Ewell’s word against Tom Robinson's word. The only concrete evidence is the bruises Mayella sustained. In this journal, I will be predicting and questioning.…

It is made very clear during the trial that it was not Tom Robinson who raped Mayella Ewell, but instead her own father. She blamed Robinson because she was evidently coersed by Bob Ewell. In Tom’s testimony he spoke of Mayella’s actions before Bob Ewell came in, “She says she never kissed a man before an’ she might as well kiss a nigger. She says what her papa do to her don’t count” (page 260). When Bob saw Mayella and Tom together being the mean drunk he is he beat and raped Mayella. In anger, he knew someone would have to pay for what he saw going on between Tom and Mayella. It was not hard to convince people in a town like Maycomb that Tom was guilty. He was black, he had a criminal record known to the citizens of Maycomb since it was such a small town, and he lived in the same neighborhood as the Ewells. People had most likely seen Tom entering the Ewell home because on more than one occasion, Mayella asked Tom to come in and help do some work around the house. “She’d call me in, suh. Seemed like every time I passed yonder she’d have some little somethin’ for me to do” (page 56). Mayella was coursed by her own father to accuse Tom because Tom was such an easy target to cover up her father’s actions.…
