To Kill A Mockingbird Heroism Analysis
According to Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, heroism is “when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do.” Atticus is saying that to him what makes hero is someone who does something even when they know they are gonna lose but they fight anyway. For example Mrs. Dubose was taking morphine because she was dieing and was in pain but she didn’t wanna die using morphine so she got off it which is a great accomplishment but the even bigger thing is that she did knowing she was going to have to suffer through withdrawal till she passed away. A hero is not always defined about what they accomplish but the way the act whilst accomplishing something. One of the greatest qualities heroism possesses is a great amount of patience Patience is an invaluable virtue. Heros must use their patience to stay on task or to keep from getting changing their minds because if you give up on everything that is hard you can never accomplish something worth doing. Whether patience is trying something over over again or waiting for an inevitable fate heros have it. Mrs. Dubose had the patience to wait till her death knowing everyday it would hurt without using her morphine. Integrity, the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Heroic leaders are trusted because they never change their inner values, even when it might be difficult. Heros live by their values and they are willing to endure risks to protect those values. A hero cannot be moral or ethical only once and call themselves a hero. In order to have integrity, a hero must continuously practice a moral and ethical way of living no matter how difficult it may

Often people have to endure tests of character in order to prove who they are. It is when people have to face great opposition that their character is truly shown; we see whether people are heroes or cowards. Those who are heroic always stand up for their morals and never back down and do selfless acts for the good of others. When people encounter moments where they have to face opposition they can do either of two things; they can stand up for what they believe in and do what they think is the right thing to do, or they can sit back and let someone else do it and simply try to ignore the problem. The ones who always stand up for what they believe are the people who are true heroes. People who have a heroic character will constantly rise up and speak out loud when they see that something wrong is going on. The people who are heroes are incredibly important to society, because they are the people who work for a better tomorrow; they are the people who are willing to sacrifice themselves for something better.…

I believe in judging someone by their actions and character rather than by the color of their skin and sexuality. This I believe because there is good and bad in all of us. The color of our skin does not depict the flaws we have. In the second amendment it states that all men are created equal, but we still do not treat each other equally. Defending Tom Robinson was not easy because I knew that from the minute Mayella opened her mouth Tom was a dead man. But everyone including a black man deserves a second chance. How could I ever tell my own children “You never really understand a person until you consider things from their point of view - until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” if I didn’t pick up Tom’s case because I was afraid of what people would think of me. When people say things about me like “Atticus Finch is the same in his house as he is on the public streets” why would I prove them wrong? You are only as good as you portray yourself to be. But when you are a black man in the town of Maycomb, Alabama you were never dealt the good hand to begin with. Sadly Tom never got a second chance. Tom was a good man but because of the color of his skin he was not treated as fairly as the rest of us.…

Heroism is being capable of being mentally strong and has the ability to be a leader. In the poem A Man by Nina Cassian a man has lost an arm in while fighting for his country. The man knows that he “shall only be able to do things by halves.” (Line 3) Even though “the man” has lost an arm he realized that he had to “set himself to do everything with twice as much enthusiasm.” The man recognizes his limitations but still has the will in his mind to push forward and never stop living life just because of one little set back. Also, a daughter writes about her mother, Ana, who is struggling through cancer. Ana’s daughter says that even though she is going through cancer again “she gets up with a smile and still has the strength to be a mother to me.” This shows that Ana is mentally strong because she is able to care for her loved ones as for someone else they would most likely give up and not want to deal with the pain any longer, especially if they have already gone through cancer and it has come back. In addition, in the movie Mulan, the main character has to be strong and take her father’s place in the army to save his life. She has to be mentally strong to deal with all of the things that she may face when she goes to war.…

There are numerous qualities that heroes hold. The main three are courage, strength, and determination. Courage is not worrying what others might think of themselves, but instead facing that and standing up for what they believe in. Strength is doing something very difficult in order to do something for a greater good. Finally, determination is staying focused on a goal despite the adversity one might face. All heroes possess each of these qualities within themselves, along with many…

Nelson Mandela once said, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear” (Mandela). Nelson Mandela, one of the most admired world leaders of all time, went through the same journey to discover true courage that Jem and Scout do throughout the novel. They do this by first having a complete misconception of courage and gradually progressing to being courageous themselves, without really realizing it. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee demonstrates that true courage is often not appreciated right away through Jem and Scout’s journey to understanding what it really means to be courageous and heroic.…

Being courageous is never a lucid decision, it determines the quality of a person's mind as it is faced with difficulty, danger, pain, and a test of bravery. I do think that fear and prejudice do keep prejudice alive. I think that way but I also think there is more to it. But 2 components to prejudice are fear and ignorance. Ignorance makes you not want to listen to other people’s circumstances and where they are coming from or even why they feel that way. Also fear can make people want to stay away from some one or something and that can create prejudice. Sometimes people don’t even know why they are prejudice against some one or some thing, and by that they are basically just being ignorant.…
