To Inform My Audience About Two Effects of Pregnant Women’s Smoking and Drinking on the Health of Their Fetus.

I’m going to talk about women that are pregnant and the effects that smoking, drinking and drugs has on the fetus. Have you ever thought what can happen to a pregnant woman and her fetus who has life style like this? Just imagine what the condition of the fetus will be if the mother would do one of these things. When woman is pregnant it is very important that she takes care of herself because whatever she does reflects directly on to the unborn child. I would also like to focus on not just the fetus but what happens once the mother gives birth. When mother gives birth to a child, the child can have cancer, heart and birth defects, brain damage or learning disorder. There is no doubt that smoking, drinking and taking drugs can be harmful for the mother and the fetus, so let’s elaborate individually on them. First main point is smoking while being pregnant and the effects to the fetus and the child. Pregnant women should never smoke, for it can be very detrimental for the fetus. When woman smokes while pregnant , fetus can have respiratory and heart problems. Moreover, all toxic chemicals that result from smoking go to the fetus. So, if the fetus survives and the woman gives birth to her child, the child will have breathing problems. Center for disease control 2012, states that the risk of babies having heart defect was 20 to 70% higher for mothers who were smoking while being pregnant. Furthermore, based on their research results, born babies are more likely to develop learning disorders with their mothers smoking, as opposed to non smoking mothers. Second main point is drinking while pregnant and the effect it has on the fetus and the child. If the mother is to be drinking alcohol while being pregnant her fetus can have a growth deficiency. Morbidity and mortality weekly report for center of disease control of 2012 finds that 15% of women drink. According to the center of disease control, drinking while pregnant can cause fatal alcohol spectrum disorders.
