(Harper Lee, 16) Here we see this thrilling, dramatic, electrifying 7 year old who wants to meet Boo Radley-- the town Boogey Man. What would cause an eccentric boy like Charles Baker Harris to want to meet Mister Arthur Radley? Perhaps Dill wanted to see a real life horror story come to life or maybe as a tall tale teller himself, he wanted to see Radley Place. There might even be an innocent reason, an adventure with his new friends. For all we know it could be sheer curiosity, but for the sake of literature there is a meaning behind it.

I envision the kids not wanting to meet Boo because they are terrified of him. Stories about Boo include the stabbing of his family member, and him being in a gang. I imagine the children not wanting to talk to him because of his house and the instances surrounding the house. One instance of the house is the poisonous pecans on the side of his lawn. When playing ball, if the ball is hit in the Radley yard it is…

Boo was locked up in the bottom of the courthouse for awhile because of this but after he came home no one ever saw him. Another reason the kids will never see him are the kids are too scared of him. Jem and Scout claim that there is a malevolent phantom living in the house otherwise known as Boo Radley. Apparently, one time Miss Stephanie Crawford woke up in the middle of the night and saw Boo Radley looking directly toward her through his window. Jem adds that Boo was scratching at their back screen late at night but was gone way before Atticus could catch him. Jem told Dill if he knocked on the Radley’s door he would definitely wind up dead. This started a chain of events where Dill dared Jem to go knock claiming that Jem was scared. Of course Jem wanted to prove to Dill he wasn’t scared of Boo Radley so, he ran through the yard slapped the house and came running back even faster. After he ran through the yard and back Scout and Dill followed right at his heels back home. They all were afraid of getting caught by Boo Radley so they ran all the way home. Jem, Scout, and Dill made…

Boo Radley is one of the most important characters in the story. “Hey Boo,” (Lee, 362). This is the first chapter where you actually meet Boo. He is standing in the corner of Jem’s room when Jem broke his elbow. Everybody thinks Boo is this really scary person. They call him Boo because he’s like a ghost. His real name is Arthur Radley. Jem described him as, “about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that's why his hands were bloodstained—if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time." (Lee,chapter1) This shows what Scout and Jem thought of him. It was a not very good assumption. He turns out to be not so creepy in the way he looks and turned out to be a very nice person which scout didn’t really expect. They realized their perceptions was wrong because he gave them food, fixed Jem’s pants, and gave them dolls over time. She came to expect it as she matured and got…

First, at one point in the story Jem snitches on Dill which breaks their childhood rule. When Jem and Scout found Dill under the bed and listened to his story, Jem had then “went out of the room and down the hall” to snitch him out to Atticus (Lee 188). This is one change Jem has had that makes him different than before. He has realized that an adult should know Dill has ran away from…

First of all, I am just assuming that Meridian, the town where Dill lives, is pretty far away. But then, one night, Scout finds Dill hiding in her room waiting for her. She was totally shocked, and I mean who would not be. Apparently, Dill stole money from his mom, took the train to Maycomb, and was waiting for Scout. Not only is that impressive, but a little bit insane. That is just a couple reasons why Dill showing up is crazier then the ruling of the case.…

Boo Radley was one of the main characters in this novel, yet he was only seen in the novel very few times. His role in this novel was to prove to the audience that stereotypes are not always true, since the stereotyped evil character was actually acting as a parent-like figure to the Finch children. The town of Maycomb had created a horrible stereotype over the years of Boo Radley only because of his parents and the fact that he had social issues. Many people including Jem, scout and Dill thought Boo was, “chained to a bed most of the time, 6 feet tall, judging by his tracks, he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch that’s why his hand were bloodstained… there was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten, his eyes popped out, and drooled most of the time,” (pg.16) only from stories they have heard from others around Maycomb. Boo Radley shows the theme of the…

Life was hard for Dill after his parents separation. After his dad abandoned his mom he ran away back to where Jem and Scout where to spend the summer with them. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee says “...It was decided that Dill could stay.” By Dill being able to stay it helped him stay away from his new dad, who he did not like. Dill also had a hard life because divorce was not common in the 1930s and it would have been hard being one of the only ones with divorced parents. “Between 1930 and 1935 there were 170,000 fewer divorces than would have occurred if the divorce rates of the 1920s had continued.” ("Making do: Family Life in the Depression."). Besides life being hard it was also doleful. Dill did not spend a lot of time with his mom and dad but rather with his other family members including his aunt Rachel “Dill was from Meridian, Mississippi, was spending the summer with his aunt, Miss Rachel.” (Lee 8). Along with Dill not spending time with his mom and dad, his parents did not spend much time together since his dad abandoned them. “Men just simply walked away.” (“Everyday Life 1929-1941”). Dill’s life was a dilemma and depressing because of his childhood life and family he grew up in and became common…
