In James Baldwin’s essay he conveys a deep sadness and eye opening interpretation of how Freedom does not mean you’re free. The sadness that I felt from this essay was immense, the fact that people were segregated, degraded and oppressed in our country. Baldwin describes a life in which black mothers fear for their children's life on a daily basis. Conditions in which we could not imagine of living in, houses with three families and only one restroom. Most white people were and some still are under the impression that the north is a better place for African Americans that is not true.…

“Didn’t i realize that reading would open up whole new worlds? A book could open doors for me. It could introduce me to people and show me places I never imagined existed. She gestured towards the bookshelves . (Bare-breasted African women danced, and the shiny hubcaps of automobiles on the back covers of the geographic gleamed in my mind.) I listened with respect. But her words were not very influential. I was thinking then of another consequence of literacy, one i was too shy to admit but nonetheless trusted. Books were going to make me “educated.” That confidence enabled me, several months later, to over come my fear of the silence.…

Today, we enjoy a greater modicum of freedom that some of our ancestors could've only dreamed of. However, as we all know, freedom is, quite ironically, not free. Our ancestors all had to escape oppression, whether it be from a tyrannous ruler or a society that demeaned them to nothing because of the color of their skin or their gender. America, the land of opportunity, was a land built by the labours of our forefathers. These men and women fought so valiantly not only to ensure their freedom, but also the freedom of the future generations ahead of them. Even today, although we may not realize it, when we fight for a cause that we are dedicated to, we are not only cementing our futures, but the futures of those ahead of us. It is a quote from…

In the play Hamlet, Prince Hamlet gave the one of most important soliloquy ever “To be, or not to be: that is the question:” this soliloquy is one of the best ever because of its location in the play and the devices and structures, Shakespeare used to amplify its meaning. The soliloquy is located in the Act 3, Scene 1, lines 64 to 98 and during the soliloquy, Hamlet is very troubled and in distressed about his future. Shakespeare magnified the placement of the soliloquy because first it is right after Prince Hamlet discoveries his father was murdered by his uncle Claudius, second that he has no one he can trust anymore and finally how can a player express a greater depth of feeling and expression for someone he does not even know. Shakespeare used many different devices ranging from antithesis, metonymy, metaphors, and parallel structure. The poetic structure used in the soliloquy is verse but the verse is used in a very complicated form because there are certain lines that more important than others lines in the soliloquy. The poetic devices and structures magnify Hamlet’s self-conflict in which he is facing in the soliloquy. Shakespeare magnified the soliloquy by placing it right before the climax unfolds and by using devices and structure to enhance the meaning of the soliloquy.…
