Mayella Ewell tries to appear as though she was taken advantage of by from Tom Robinson, when she was the true one at fault. Mayella approaches the stand, and, “She seemed somehow fragile-looking”, (Lee,179). Mayella attempts to get the jury on her side by looking like a young, broken girl, but she is used to working hard and can hold her own very well. It is found out later in the case that Mayell actually made advances on Tom Robinson instead of the other way around; “”She reached up an’ kissed me ‘side of th’ face, [Tom Robinson],”” (Lee, 194). Mayella was lonely, so she was desperate for human contact. Thus. she went for the only man in her life besides her dad, which was Tom. Mayella was one of many of the other characters in this novel…

Throughout the trial the reader is certain that Tom Robinson is innocent of the crime. The only “crime” he commits is feeling sorry for Mayella. Tom did not do or want to cause any harm. For example, when he is explaining what had happened at Mayella's house he said, “I say Miss Mayella lemme outa here an’ tried to run but she got her back to the door an’ I’da had to push her. I didn’t wanta harm her, Mr. Finch….” (260). Tom had gone out of his way to help Mayella in many occasions. For instance, when Tom is being cross examined by Mr. Gilmer, he tells him, “I was just tryin’ to help her out, suh” (263). Despite his effort to explain this,Robinson was unjustly declared guilty. It was only within a few days that Tom was killed. In the book Atticus says, “Shoot all the bluejays you want if you can hit'em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird” (119). Shooting Tom Robinson was like shooting a mockingbird.…

I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I am on page 281. This book is about racism, which is showcased in a trial. A low-class white family, the Ewells, are suing a black man, Tom Robinson, on accounts of raping Mayella Ewell. The case mostly boils down to Ewell’s word against Tom Robinson's word. The only concrete evidence is the bruises Mayella sustained. In this journal, I will be predicting and questioning.…

There are a variety of characters in all kinds of stories, including Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird. Out of all of the characters, some are more complex than others, running into multitudes of problems throughout the course of the story. Dill is no exception even though he is curious, imaginative, and somehow still sensible enough to know right from wrong. But what actually establishes Dill such a memorable character, some may ask, but don’t worry, those answers will be answered soon.…

Tom was always kind and generous to everyone. He would do work for others when he could have been at home with his family and he never asked for money from his extra tasks of the day. During his trial Tom is talking about how he would help Mayella with her chores that she could not do. He says, “”Looked like she didn’t have nobody to help her, like I says--” . . . Mr. Gilmer smiled grimly at the jury. “You‘re a mighty good fellow it seems--did all this for not one penny?” “Yes, suh””(Lee 263-264). This reinforces the idea that Tom is innocent and that he would…

“Treat a child as though he already is the person he is capable of becoming” said Haim Ginott. A child must be treated as an adult at an early age because that is what they will get used to, the way that their parents or guardians interact. Children learn best at an early age, for example the ages when the children begin to talk are the ages at which they begin to absorb more information. As a matter of fact, children are learning everything, such as how to walk, how to move, they are learning how to interact and live. That is why children should be treated as an adult and treated as an equal because if you don’t, it'll be harder for them to grow up and mature or change their old habits that were taught to them as younger people. In the other hand, if children were to be spoiled and they were unaware of the real world, then the shock and confusion would be great as the child grows and learns deeper stuff. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch’s influence on his daughter, Scott, is made clear through the importance he places on education, the admirable ways to practice law, and through his effective interactions with Maycomb’s residents.…
