CYP 3.4 - 3.2 - Explain the dilemma between the rights and choices of children and
young people and health and safety requirements? When caring for children and young people, there is a dilemma which occurs as you try to have a balanced viewpoint of an activity against any element of danger. When children are doing a new activity we make risk assessment judgments based on the age of the child, the surroundings and the level of danger associated with the activity to access how safe it is for the child to take part. At the same time we don't want to limit their learning and exposure to new activities as under certain conditions they need to learn through their experiences so that they develop and gain knowledge naturally. We also have to bear in mind that children also have rights, and we have to allow them a certain amount of freedom as long as they are not putting themselves or others in any danger.
