She was going to join her sister Catherine at 542 West 112th Street New York City. Catherine had paid for her passage on the Titanic. It was Honora’s 24th birthday on night of the sinking.…
On July 28th, 1914 World War I had officially begun between the Serbs, Austria-Hungry, then on August 1st, 1914 Russia and Germany got involved and joined two different sides. During the war, February 4th, 1915 Germany declared the oceans around Britain to be a “war zone” that means that any boat that should be in that area shall be shot down by a U-boat or a submarine. On May 1st 1915, under the control of Captain Turner, the Lusitania set sail for Liverpool, but unfortunately the Lusitania was sunk by a U-boat before it could arrive. In the book Dead Wake by Erik Larson, he describes the horror that happened during the sinking of the Lusitania. The sinking of the…
Neglecting happens when we are judging upon our experience or we are over confident, but disasters often come when we are ignoring. The film Titanic, directed by James Cameron, was a huge success. The film moved us not only by the love between Jack and Rose, but also by this huge ship’s sinking. In reality this so called unsinkable ship stroke an iceberg at the midnight of 15 April 1992, and just within two hours 1500 people dead and the ship lay down at the bottom of the sea. It is said that several hours before the colliding the commander received the warning of icebergs, but he ignored the alarm and keep the ship in full…
As fate would have it, RMS Titanic did not even complete one journey in its short lifespan of four days.…

On April 15, 1912, 1500 people died on board the RMS Titanic. Families were lost at sea, struggling to survive in the dark, murky waters of the Trans-Atlantic Ocean. However, one question remains… Who or what is responsible for the sinking of the ‘unsinkable ship’? The Titanic set sail on April 10, 1912 carrying 2200 passengers and 1300 crew. She hit an iceberg on April 14, 1912 at 11:45 p.m. At first the captain thought that the ship had merely scraped the iceberg. The damage was much worse... The iceberg scraped the hull so bad the rivets used to hold the ship together popped out. The gash in the hull let water come into the ship at 10 tons per second! Of the 2200 passengers, she carried on board, only 700 survived. Some people say that Thomas Andrews (the head designer of the Titanic) was responsible for the tragedy due to faulty ship design. Others say that J. Bruce Ismay is responsible for encouraging faulty ship design. Ismay is to blame because he should have told Thomas Andrews to make the supposed ‘water tight’ bulkheads higher. Ismay also should have added more lifeboats to save everyone on board in case of disaster. Out of all the culprits, Ismay is the most responsible because he had the final say in how the ship was made.…
The lack of being properly equipped played a major role in the deaths of many men on the USS Indianapolis. For instance, the ship needed better ventilation. With the use of better ventilation, the ship would not have had the need to have numerous port holes opened. The opening of these port holes contributed to the speedy sinking of the ship.…

The Deepwater Horizon incident is, to date, the most horrific environmental disaster that has ever taken place. The incident could have been prevented or even reduced had appropriate actions taken place when the warning signals were given but not heeded. The folks that were in charge during the warning phase should have taken a more proactive approach to investigate the warning signals. From all accounts, there were folks in positions to have made those important decisions but didn’t. I would consider this as the garbage can model (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013).…
Fredrick Fleet was the workman on guard on the Titanic on April 14. Fleet, had warned the personnel on the ship’s control deck to look out for icebergs that night, yet nobody was at the control panel that fateful night (McPherson 6). The Titanic was thought to be unsinkable when it was built in 1911. “More than 2,200 people were now aboard the Titanic including 1,300 passengers” (Senan 16). The location the Titanic deported from was Great Britain and it was headed to New York. After three long days of sailing on the North Atlantic, they stopped in Ireland. A few days later, the ship crashed into an iceberg that had made it’s way into North Atlantic from Greenland (Fahey 4). Many people went back to their rooms to get their valuables from down below (Lord 60). Most historians say that they don’t know the exact number of passengers that were on the Titanic because, there was no accurate list of them. The Titanic was a major disaster but could have been prevented if workers were at their stations.…
A major shift in our innovative world occurred during the beginning of the 20th century. Inventions that rule our era today were first brought upon in the early 1900s. One of the most notorious of these inventions was the steamboat. During this time there was a big transition from sailboat to steamboat. A significant change as to how naval vessels were built and operated took place, which sometimes resulted in conducting problems leading to tragedies. One of the most famous steamboats to ever be built was the R.M.S Titanic. White Star Line’s Royal Mail Ship Titanic was the largest British luxury passenger liner to ever be built. At the time, Titanic was believed to be unsinkable because of the way she was constructed;…

This movie is unrealistic and horrible. It has been said many times that a movie gains popularity if it embodies a culture or ideology of a particular society. No wonder this is the highest grossing film of all time, it embodies many not so positive elements of the American dream. You don't need economic or social stability in your life, "I love waking up in the morning not knowing what's gonna happen or, who I'm gonna meet, where I'm gonna wind up"(As spoken by our heroine). In other words, life is a playground, do whatever you please. You could get an education in college or you could just run around like Jack gambling your life away; it's all indifferent when taking this movie's message into account. This indifference is a reoccurring theme from our beloved heroine, and symbolic toward the message it portrays. Jack is going to America and he doesn't need a plan for the future, he is just going to follow his so-called "romantic will" and see where it takes him. Sadly, this value is subconsciously taken in by many little girls and boys (adults as well) as a good and virtuous thing.…
