About the IKEA Group

IKEA offers a wide range of well-designed, functional and affordable home furnishing products. The founder of the IKEA Operations, Ingvar Kamprad, wanted to create an ownership structure that stands for independence and a long-term approach.

That is why, since 1982, the IKEA Group has been owned by a foundation in the Netherlands. The foundation is called Stichting INGKA Foundation. Its purpose is to fund charity through the Stichting IKEA Foundation in the Netherlands and to reinvest in the IKEA Group.

The IKEA Group operates throughout the whole value chain from range strategy and product development to production, distribution and retail.

Stichting INGKA Foundation

The Stichting INGKA Foundation owns the IKEA Group while the INGKA Holding B.V. is the parent company for the IKEA Group. Both are based in the Netherlands. Members of the Supervisory Board of INGKA Holding B.V. are: Göran Grosskopf (Chairman), Jonas Kamprad, Lars-Johan Jarnheimer, Göran Lindahl, Carl Wilhelm Ros, Peter Lund and Luisa Delgado. Ingvar Kamprad, who retired from the management of the IKEA Group in 1986, is Senior Advisor.

IKEA Group Executive Management

IKEA Group Executive Management consists of: Mikael Ohlsson (President and CEO), Peter Agnefjäll, Alistair Davidson, Petra Hesser, Helen Duphorn, Torbjörn Lööf, Noel Wijsmans, Jesper Brodin and Steve Howard.
IKEA Services B.V. and IKEA Services AB
IKEA Services B.V. and IKEA Services AB with staff units in the Netherlands and Sweden support all IKEA Group companies with management advisory services.

IKEA stores

The IKEA Group operates around 290 IKEA stores in 26 countries under franchise rights from Inter IKEA Systems B.V. About 40 IKEA stores in 15 countries are operated by other IKEA franchisees which are owned outside the IKEA Group.

    Ikea was founded in 1943 when Ingvar Kamprad was given the Ikea name by his father. Ikea stands for; Ingvar Kamprad elmtaryd Agunnaryd, the son 's first and last name and the farm and village where he grew up. The first Ikea sold small items such as pencils, table runners and nylon stockings, all for exceptionally affordable prices. Ingvar knew he had found a system that worked, by 1945 he had expanded.
