In this article the issue of managers running out of time and their subordinates running out of work is discussed. The author argues that for managers to function effectively, they need to be able to spend their time as much as possible on activities which are imposed on them by their own management or by their peers. However, a lot of managers seem to spent too much time on ‘self-imposed’ tasks, such as handling subordinates’ problems.…

'Time', never stops. It keeps passing ceaselessly. It does not wait for any one. It cannot be preserved. It cannot be recycled. Thus, ‘Time', if not utilized, or utilized improperly gets wasted. Consequently, ‘Time' is given different connotations by different people. For example, there are some people who treat time as money, and there are others who treat it as life. For the purpose of the subject topic, i.e., ‘Time Management', we need to treat ‘Time', as the duration or a period available to do something. The duration of ‘Time' is measured in terms of seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, etc.…

Research into student time management for the LearnHigher CETL has been carried out by members of the University Study Advice team at the University of Reading. We are a centrally-situated and primarily student-facing learning development service, providing support for students to develop their learning practices through one-to-one advice sessions, generic and embedded workshop teaching, and paper and online self-help guides and resources. Our constituency includes students from all disciplines and all levels of academic study, from Foundation degrees and part-time Certificate courses through to PhD students. We have regular direct contact with a diverse student community, including international and mature students, and students with Specific Learning Difficulties. Some are studying part-time, while others are on placements or are distance learners. Given this privileged, direct and everyday access to a broad demographic of students, their experience of managing time at university and the effectiveness of interventions, it was appropriate for us to adopt an action research approach. As a consequence, we have established an iterative cycle of reflection on our own practice to motivate and identify areas for study. The research projects listed below were carried out at the University of Reading, 2005-2010.…

"Time is what we want most, but what we use worst,” said famous philosopher William Penn. Most of us let this happen much too often these days. We procrastinate and waste time on things that are unimportant or unnecessary instead of being productive on things that are of significance. Time is very hard to manage, because we can neither see it nor feel it until it has passed, and by that time it is too late. Time management does not only allow us to get more out of our day, but assists with making each of us a better person. Dictionaries define time as the hours and days in which a person has at his/her disposal.…

Many students discover the need to develop or hone their time management skills when they arrive at college. Unlike high school where teachers frequently structured your assignments and classes filled your day, in college, you will have less in-class time, more outside of class work, and a great deal of freedom and flexibility. Whether you were an efficient worker or practicing procrastinator in high school, good time management is a key element to a successful college career.…
