Introduction
The Warman Design and Build Competition is a widely spread completion that is done once a year. University of South Australia has always been a major competitor throughout the years, this completion is a great way to encourage and develop engineering skills in an engineering environment. This year’s focus is to design, build and prove a prototype system in the laboratory environment that serves to deliver autonomously a supply package to a balloon based observation facility, using the balloon tether to deliver the supply package. The focus of this report is to analyse the results and relate them to past and recent findings.

Initial Concepts and Discussion
There are few ideas that we had when approaching to this project. We started have a bit of clue of vehicle A with just a simple sketch of how the car going to be. Firstly, we thought the model of the car will be a box like and the PCP board with the motor will be in the box of the car. Later on, we thought of two types of material for the model of the car, it is either plastic or soft wood. They are both light and easy to get. The second part that we have to sketch is a lift which will be later on placed on the device A. The material of the lift

The first lesson learnt is the importance of durability when constructing a device. Although the preliminary design was functioning, it’s lack of durability meant a completely new device was constructed for the secondary design. The emphasis placed on durability for subsequent iterations resulted in a device that remained structurally sound despite repeated transportations. The second lesson is the importance of effectively integrating separate systems into the final design. The parallel construction of the computer system and the mechanical system allowed the final design to operate as a single unit that was both accurate and efficient. Without this integration, the final design would likely have been unsuccessful.…

    Mousetrap Racer Report

My Mousetrap vehicle turned out to be pretty good and in great working condition. My ideas of simple machines were put to a test when I did this project. The Vehicle travelled exactly 12 feet as expected. Like everyone my vehicle was also made of wooden pieces and mousetraps. The materials used were : wooden pieces, wheels & axles, and a mousetrap. It took me exactly 10 days to make my vehicle completely and with the help of Mr. Evans, Evans, and Nixon it seemed easy. Firstly I started off with the piece that was provided. I cut of a wooden piece with the width of 2 inches and length of 9 inches . Then I cut of the half of a big axle and made it in half and cut the half to another half. Then I cut off 2 sides of the vehicle with a width of 1.5 inches approx and length of 9 inches, to hold the axles I had to drill two holes on each sides. I made two holes on each sides and glued the side to the body and made sure that they keep strong. I was done with the mousetrap holder, sides and axles, moreover I was done with the body of my vehicle. Now that I was done with all that I glued the mousetrap to the body, then I glued discs of 4.5 inch diameter to my axles acting as wheels. Then I was completely done except for one thing and that is the small metal bar on my mousetrap handle acting as lever, and one more thing I added after the lever was the ropes. I hot glued the last resort of the rope to the middle of the axle and tied the front end to the bar so that when the lever pulls my car will be able to move forward (the rope length was about 12 inches). This is how it was done, it was a great experience.…

Throughout the popsicle stick tower crane projects, groups were instructed to build a tower crane replica out of popsicle sticks, with the purpose of holding the most weight in a competition between their peers’ tower cranes. The Insane Cranes focused on making a very sturdy base, and a flexible yet strong jib. Their crane held 2,600 grams and places second in their class-wide competition. They found that the hardest part of the project was the research about and the assembly of the jib. On the contrary, they found that the easiest part of the project was the building of the base. In conclusion, the popsicle stick tower crane project was a total success, the groups that participated in it gained experience in working with teams and those participating also gained understanding of cantilevers.…

Activities are everywhere and always in reach for one to engage himself or herself in. It is a matter of making the decision to get out of bed or to hop off the couch and decide to be active. During this course we were required to walk at least forty-five minutes each day which resulted in creating opportunities to sync into a healthier lifestyle. For me, ever since I began the course a variety of differences were made, perhaps not immediately, but the changes were there and were noted towards the final days of the course. The ability to manage time, as well as attending to a proper nutrition, and hydration all changed in the most positive ways possible.…

The report examines how much time the FSD students in 2009 spent on self-studying and the effect of this on their average mark. According to the FSD teachers’ advices, every student should spend at least 3 hours in studying English at home. It was enough time for you to revise the whole lesson and do your homework. If the result supports this claim, the effective study will be considered. To perform the survey, from the population of all FSD students, a sample size of 50 was chosen randomly (50% students coming from A group, and 50% students from D group) to answer the questionnaire including 5 multiple choices questions. The data collected are used to perform the t- test for means, which reveals that at 5 % level of significance, more than 36% of respondents spending 3 hours, in self-study. The purpose of this topic is that we focus on the most basic question: “how to study effectively without stress”. It will be extremely beneficial for next generations of FSD.…

The project was fueled by the requests of the Engineering Distance Education program and all decisions made were an attempt to meet those requests. Based on planning and designing throughout the first semester, the design team began working on the solution in January 2001. Although some ideas from the original design did not make the final design, many of them were kept in the design and are reflected in the final work. The overall idea of the solution was retained, but some of the details were changed when differences in theoretical design and actual design occurred during development.…
