Hamilton, the hit Broadway musical, has one of the hottest tickets around, and with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s departure, ticket prices skyrocketed. Demands for a ticket rose, resulting in higher profits for ticket scalpers. Tiff Fehr explains in his article “How Scalpers Make Their Millions with ‘Hamilton’” what makes tickets expensive when their face value is a fraction of the price. He describes how ticket scalping happens and different methods utilized to prevent it. Even though ticket scalping is illegal, it still happens unknowingly.
In summary, the average face value of a Hamilton ticket is around $189, and with Miranda’s withdrawal from the musical, scalpers raised ticket prices to an unbelievable $10,900 per seat. Fehr explains that scalping
