1. INTRODUCTION

1.1) INTRODUCTION OF 3 PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR: The three phase induction motors are used in many industrial applications due to their reliability, low cost and high performance. Whereas this popular ac motor performance is affected by following type of faults.

1. ELECTRICALLY RELATED FAULTS (33%):
The faults under this classification are single phasing, over/under voltage, overload over temperature.

2. MECHANICAL RELATED FAULTS (32%):
The rotor winding failure, stator winding failure and bearing faults are most occurring mechanical faults in 3 phase induction motor.

3. ENVIRONMENTALLY RELATED FAULTS (15%):
The external moisture, contaminations and ambient temperature also affect the induction motor performance. The vibration of machine also affects the performance of induction machine under various operations.

Electrical related faults are frequently are occurring faults in 3 phase induction machine which will produce more heat on both stator and rotor winding, this leads to reduce the life time of induction machine. This study presents the behavior of three phase induction motor under the unbalanced supply voltage, single phasing and overload condition.

1.2) RISING PROBLEM

For three phase induction motor, it is necessary that all the three phases of supply are present. While it is on load if any one of the phase goes out, or goes missing, the motor will continue to run with two phases only, but it will start drawing a huge current for the same load. This high current may run the motor unless switched off immediately. Failure of any of the phases makes the equipment prone to erratic functioning and may even lead to failure. Hence it is of paramount importance to monitor the availability of the three-phase supply and switch off the equipment in the event of failure of one or two

Three-phase induction machines account for the great majority of applications that call for motors with power ratings over 5 hp. They are used to power pumps, fans, compressors, and grinders, and in other industrial applications. Rotating Stator Field. The stator of a three-phase induction machine contains a set of windings to which three-phase electrical power is applied. The stator field can be visualized as a set of north and south poles rotating around the circumference of the stator. (North…

The Cross Field Theory of Single Phase Induction Motor The cross field theory of single phase induction motors looks at the induction motor from a totally different point of view. This theory is connected with the voltages & currents that the stationary stator magnetic field can induce in the bars of the rotor when the rotor is moving. Consider a single phase induction motor with a rotor which has been brought up to speed by some external method. Such a motor. Voltages are induced in the bars of…

Chapter (9) Single-Phase Motors Introduction As the name suggests, these motors are used on single-phase supply. Singlephase motors are the most familiar of all electric motors because they are extensively used in home appliances, shops, offices etc. It is true that singlephase motors are less efficient substitute for 3-phase motors but 3-phase power is normally not available except in large commercial and industrial establishments. Since electric power was originally generated and distributed…

Phase Change Lab Report by Dylan Norford Abstract: The purpose of this experiment is to study the energy changes associated with the phase changes of water. In this experiment we know the water is gaining energy so we know the heat is going to be positive and we can use the equation MCΔT to find the energy change. The specific heat will be 1 and we just have to measure the water to find the mass and take the temperature before and after we start to find the energy change. Background: The science…
