Three Day Food Diary
Introduction
Over the past three days, I have completed a three-day food diary. This involved recording all the exercise I did and everything I ate for breakfast, lunch, dinner and multiple snacks throughout the three days. I found this experience quite interesting as it made me more aware of what I eating and how this relates to the guidelines for my age category (14-18). This report will be able to tell me what improvements I need to make to have a balanced diet and also the reflect on my diet currently. I will go through each food group including grain (cereal foods), vegetables, fruit, dairy, lean meats, poultry, eggs, etc and discretionary choices and reflect on the amount of serves I consumed for that for group.

Fruit is very beneficial to our body as it has a good source of vitamins and minerals which is necessary for the functioning of our body, potassium which improves the functioning of all cells, tissue and organs in our body systems, fibre which keeps us regular and prevents constipation, vitamin C which helps strengthen and form our body and bones and folate which is needed to create our DNA. It also prevents having a stroke, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Fruit helps us to keep a balance diet and gives us a good supply of natural sugars which is why we only 2 serves is recommended. According to my food diary, the fruits I consumed in the three days was tomatoes, apples, blueberries, watermelon, raspberries and a banana. On the first day I had three and a half of serves of fruit, on the second day three serves and on the final day, two serves. On the first two days I went over the recommended intakes (2 serves), but on the third day matched it correctly. This is because on school days I have fruit in my lunchbox, for an afternoon snack and in my salad dinner, whereas on the weekend I only have it as a snack and at dinner. This food diary has helped me to realise that I need to cut back on my amount of fruit as too much fruit is also not heathy. Consuming too many serves of fruit can cause dental decay due to the mont of sugar in the …show more content…
Dairy products are beneficial to our bodies especially for people still growing as they keep your bones and teeth strong and your nails and hair healthy. On a three day basis I usually consume dairy products like milk for breakfast, cheese slices for lunch and yoghurt as a snack. On the first day and second day I only had one serve of dairy and on the third day two serves. As the recommended intake is three and a half serves, my intake for dairy is extremely low because over the three days I am meant to having ten and a half serves but I am only have 4 serves which means I am eating less than 40% of what is required. Not having enough dairy foods and calcium in your diet is bad as your bones aren’t strengthening as they should be, your hair and nails may become brittle and if these habits continue over the years especially after menopause your bones will become very frail and break easily. One thing I could do to improve this is after school or throughout the day have a large glass of milk or a cup of

My current diet is a complete disaster. Because of my work schedule, I don’t get up until around 11:00am, so when I do wake I have a cup or two of orange juice which is what I consider to be my breakfast. On the way to work, I grab a hamburger and soft drink. Also, I sometimes skip the soft drink and get a Monster energy drink if I am still tired from the night before. I have to put Devion on the bus in the morning which leaves me very sleepy most days, so I use this as an excuse to grab the energy drinks to make it through each day. My day at work is really boring, so, my co-worker and I sit and eat to actually entertain ourselves throughout the day. One of my major obstacles will be to ignore her when she offers me some foods or snacks because she really likes to eat several different snacks throughout the day. She really gets offended if someone turns down her offer for a snack, but, I would really like to lose some of this weight.…

For this three day diet analysis project I wanted to eat as I normally would and be honest about all that I ate, to analyze not only what and how much I was eating, but also to see how healthy my diet really is. By doing so I can see if any of my diet choices are putting me at risk for certain health diseases, and what changes can be made to make my diet healthier. After analyzing my diet, I would say I am fairly healthy, though I am out of the target range in a few areas. My profile calculated from my weight and height indicates that I have a BMI of 20.5. This is considered to be healthy; the healthy range is anywhere between 18.5-25. This was reassuring to hear because I am happy at my current weight, and would not like to make any major changes.…

My daily diet should contain a balance of proteins, carbohydrates (carbs), and lipids (collectively called macronutrients). According to Kirby (2011), micronutrients are substances such as vitamins, and minerals that are essential for healthy growth and developments. The body only requires small quantities of micronutrients and without them serious problems can arise. The role of each micronutrient makes proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids equally important in my diet. Proteins are important for repair and tissue growth, helps the body to make enzymes and hormones, as well as preserve lean muscle mass and is a source of energy. Carbohydrates are the body main source of energy and are easily broken down into glucose (sugar) which is used for immediate energy. They ensure that my muscles, kidneys, brain and nervous system properly functions also. All my life I have been told that fats (lipids) were bad for my health only to find out those small amounts in my diet is important for normal body function such as the absorbing of fat soluble vitamins and promotes normal growth and development. This paper is to discuss a three day food intake of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids.…

The only milk I intake is with my coffee and tea. Although I have four hot beverages a day with around 2 tablespoons of dairy, I am aware that this is no-where near the recommended 2 cups a day. On a good note however, I do not drink many sugary drinks at all- if any. Coffee, tea and water are my staple liquids therefore the sugar that I eat equals out to the sugars that I don’t drink. Drinking 2-3 glasses of water per day are less than the 6-8 glasses recommended however I do make a conscious effort to drink more on the days that I work out. I do not take in enough calories, as I burn on average 800calories and eat on any given day from 1200-1800.…

According to my three day diet analysis it seems like my eating habits are poor. Not necessarily that I am consuming too many bad foods but I am not getting the all around nutrients that I need on a daily basis. Sometimes not eating enough. Or ot finding time to eat at all is a big issue in this. Due to my job and the lack of time I have at home it is hard for me to get the nutrients I need on a daily basis. With the target that is shown of six oz. of grains two and a half cups of vegetables, two cups of fruits, two cups of dairy and five and a half oz. of protein foods I fell short in most of the areas that were targeted for me. My biggest two areas of consumption was refined grains and protein.…
