A Healthy Life, A Healthy Me
Three Day Diet Analysis
Countless diets are available to help individuals maintain a healthy weight. Weight loss programs can become very expensive even if it merely involves counseling. This paper is composed of a three day diet plan which was offered online free of charge. The SuperTracker interactive tool on the USDA website is available at no cost to anyone interested. Moreover, it acts as a coach, tracker, reporter and manager of a weight loss plan designed specifically for a participant’s needs and desires.
There are several options in the SuperTracker that a person can choose from to create a plan tailored for them: A personal profile section; track food and physical activity section; reports section; and a “My Plan” section which demonstrates a person’s efforts to stick with a diet plan designed for their needs.

Under the profile there are numerous options to help design a beneficial program. The “Food Tracker” maintains a list of favorite foods and encompasses “Food-A-Pedia” which has an archive of nutrition facts with over 8,000 foods to compare side by side and the “Weight Manager” which tailors a program for each individual involved. In order to set a weight loss plan in action the participant entered her age, weight and height. With that information the SuperTracker calculated how many calories could be consumed in a day. The Physical Activity Tracker houses a database of optional exercises, and calculates how the chosen activities measures up to the goals. The participant added her gender, in addition to the amount of physical activity performed in each day. The SuperTracker subsequently created a report that showed her daily targets for calories and

The results for my new diet when compared to the recommendations from the SuperTracker are very bad indeed. I am not eating enough grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy or protein foods. An average for the amount of grains I consumed was 6 and a half ounces which is 2 servings each of these days. I consumed one and a half cup of fruits and vegetables which is about 2 servings on Saturday. I did not eat any other fruit during this three day period. I also consumed a quarter cup of dairy. From the proteins foods group, I consumed 2 and a half ounces and from the oils groups which is not a serving at all, but when this measured is about 2 teaspoons.…

Over the course of this week I have learned many things about my eating habits. I found that when I am very busy I tend to eat less and healthier. When I am just sitting around I tend to eat more than necessary and the foods are not as good for me. Using this tracker has really helped me to see what I am consuming, as far as carbohydrates, fats, sugars, proteins, sodium, and total calories. I have also been able to tell that the more active I am the more calories that I burn in a day. Before I started using the tracker I never gave much thought to how many calories I was burning just walking around, cleaning, cooking, and working. My eating habits are not the greatest. This week I went to the beach for a couple of days and my eating habits while we were driving to and from Delaware was horrible. I ate fast food and consumed way to much sodium and sugars. When we were cooking for ourselves and walking around all day my numbers were much better. I did notice using this tracker though that I need to eat more vegetables and proteins, and cut back on my sugars. I have a hard time staying under my daily sugar allotment. Overall, I really do need to improve my eating habits.…

The three-day diet analysis was interesting. There were many positive attributes to it and definitely negative ones. Over the course of the three days, which were Friday, Saturday and Sunday: and figured this would give a good depiction of what I was consuming on a regular basis. In some places I was consuming more than I should be and in some I was consuming less than I should be. There were also those places were I was getting just the right amount. It is so interesting to me to be able to find out what I am consuming and how I am consuming it. Being an active male, it was most interesting of what I ate, what my average of the three days were, and the plan on how I would correct the way I eat to make it a more healthier lifestyle.…

My current eating habits are not very good. I am well aware of this, and my excuse is that I am a father of two that works full time, attends online college part time, has a dad that is very medically involved and children that are in sports, and I have recently joined a gym that I try to attend three nights a week. My life is very rushed and busy all the time.…

According to the food pyramid, my diet is horrible considering what I have consumed in these 3 days. It shows that I need to start eating more, and better quality foods. My sugar intake is too high and should be reconsidered. Possibly I could swap out processed sugars for natural sugars; such as in fruit. It is obvious from the records I have provided that I do not take in as much (if any) fruit that one should be consuming on a daily basis. Thus, not only am I depriving myself of vitamins, I am also depriving myself of the fiber needed in order for my digestive system and metabolism to work as necessary. I will have to incorporate more whole grains with fruit and vegetables to act as roughage, as going to the bathroom proves difficult for me- most likely this is why.…

As in food diaries, the user documents as they consume. Because it is completed in real time, this tool should be cognitively simple. It’s progressive completion limits recall error. The idea is that users register foods from a given meal, directly after having eaten them. The application prompts users to indicate portion sizes, and any additional details they can provide. This can includes fat content, brand name, and even preparation details. However, food diaries are typically open-ended questionnaires, whereby, people are not limited by a food choice restrictions. My Meal Mate, and other similar smartphone applications have a finite number of food items available in their database. The intent of limiting the foods available for entry is to decrease the expense and difficulty associated with coding food items. Another reason this dietary tool was structured this way is for ease of use. Logically, it does not seem difficult to record everything you eat on a piece of paper. Practically, however, we know this is not true. Writing out dietary intake can be a tedious task. For food records to work as intended, participants are required to record as they go. This requires notetaking ability twenty-four hours a day. It may, not be feasible to carry pen and paper with you everywhere you go. In today’s society, people rarely go anywhere without their cell phones.…

One of the things that I realized in the tracker is the activity your body endures or should endure throughout the day. Doing so will help burn certain calories if you had an intake that was over the target as well as just keep the body in shape. This part builds the energy to its optimum status. We can look at simple things as waking up earlier and sleeping earlier as being ways to fit this in our schedule or to help with the energy factor. Believe it or not our sleep and exercise patterns will help with the nutrition portion as well. Working out more whether going to the gym or just home exercise will keep the body moving to a pace where the body can work at its maximum potential.…
