THOUGHTS ON ISRAEL
There is perhaps no other country in the world with a history as chaotic and violent as Israel's. After all it happens to be the only country in the world which was drawn into a full-scale war a day after it came into existence. And the fact that it was attacked not by 1 but by 4 countries, namely Egypt,Jordan,Syria and Iraq makes its existence all the more impressive.
This country generally elicits highly polarized opinions. People either support it wholeheartedly or they hate it. There are those(Amadinejad) who want to eradicate Israel, wipe it of the map and there are those who support its right to exist. Who is right? Who is wrong?
Those who want to have Israel destroyed generally want it for religious reasons. Hamas, the largest and most influential islamic militant group in the Middle East has stated specifically in their charter that their main object is the destruction of the state of Israel.Hamas combines Palestinian nationalism with Islamic fundamentalism. Its founding charter commits the group to the destruction of Israel, the replacement of the PA with an Islamist state on the West Bank and Gaza, and to raising "the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine." Given such a fanatical desire to unite all of Palestine under the "Banner of Allah"it is only natural that they view Israel as a setback which needs to be removed. And given the fact that Hamas happens to be the most prominent branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, which happens to be fighting for power in the surrounding countries doesn't really help Israel's cause as the Muslim Brotherhood is just as bad as Hamas,if not worse.
Now,as to why Israel should exist in the first place. Well, for starters, the Jews have maintained a significant presence in the region since the 16th century. Secondly, during the second world war countries around the world refused to take in Jewish refugees fleeing the Holocaust. Hence a

The Israeli war for independence in 1948 begun when David Ben Gurion announced the establishment of the state of Israel on May 5th; and had a significant effect on events thereafter, all the way to the 6 day war of 1967, and beyond. When Gurion proclaimed the state of Israel, the Arab states where infuriated, immediately seeking to destroy this new country, because they viewed it as a ploy by western powers, such as the USA, to secure a foothold in the Middle East, and Israel was cast as the stooge of the USA by its neighbours.…

However, discriminatory measures are certainly not supported by Judaism, the shared identity between the majority and the Israeli government. As a peace loving religion, Judaism affirms that all men are of equal value and worth, and are inherently pure and good. Similarly, American military airstrikes that kill civilians are not democratic, as they violate the grounding principle of basic human rights as the state cannot take away. Thus, by taking actions that are not supported by Judaism and democracy respectively in combating the threat of the Other, these countries fail to effectively promote and abide by the common identity upon which they have securitized the Other. Hence, it is clear that ulterior socio-economic and political motives lie in the adoption of discriminatory policies by the Israeli government and the increase in military air strikes by the American government, although they are publicized as efforts to mitigate the…

On the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Palestinian land has been increasingly taken over by Israel for years. An extremist Jewish group called the Zionists, emerged in the late 1800s , seeking to find a homeland for the Jews, and searching in both Africa and the Americas before finally settling on Palestine. This did not appear as a problem or threat at first but as many more Zionists immigrated to Palestine with the intention of taking over the land to create a Jewish state, fighting broke out with the Palestinians, increasingly surging with Hitler’s rise to power during World War I. To this day, Palestinians have very minimal control of what mere land they have left, especially with Israel’s military forces using extremely oppressive methods.…

“There is an in-built dislike of Jews. Overt anti semitism goes against the British sense of fair play. It has to be covert and civilised. So certain playwrights and actors on the left wing make themselves out to be stricken with conscience. They say: 'We hate Israel, we hate Zionism, we don't hate Jews.' But Zionism is the very essence of what a Jew is. Zionism is the act of seeking sanctuary after years and years of unspeakable outrages against Jews. As soon as Israel does anything over the top it's always the same old faces who come out to demonstrate. I don't see hordes of people marching down the street against Mugabe when tens of thousands are dying every month in Zimbabwe” - Interview with The Jewish Chronicle (Jewish magazine).…
