Haunted House

It was a beautiful day outside. Boys playing soccer on the streets, girls playing hopscotch on the sidewalk, men mowing the lawns and women sitting in a group and gossiping. And of course everyone would be doing this because it was the last day of summer. Everyone was outside of their homes but except for the house right in front of us. What was going on? I heard a lot of scary things about that house. Could all of the things I heard be true? That house is something really different. The roof of the house is broken, the paint is falling off and the door is always creaking. One day my friend Emely and I were playing basketball. Emely got a little over excited and threw the ball a little to hard and the ball landed on the front yard of the house. I yelled at her,” Why did you throw the ball to hard, you know I don’t like that house because I think its haunted.” Emely looked at me in a really weird way right when I said haunted. She said,” What do you mean by haunted and you know that I didn’t mean to throw the ball in that house. Well going back to the subject what do you mean by haunted?” I then decided to tell her,” Last night I heard a lot of thumping, screaming, and a lot of scary ghost noises coming from that house and right wen I was opening the window that house was dead silent and to tell you the truth I think that house is haunted.” My friend started to think I was crazy, she said,” Nonsense, that house is as normal as any other house on this block.” I ignored what she said and told her to come with me to get the basketball. My friend and I ran to the house and I was a little too scared to go get the ball so I told Emely to go get the ball. As Emely was slowly walking to get the ball this man I have never seen before comes running out with a cane yelling at us to get off of his lawn. Emely got really scared and ran off the lawn forgetting to pick up the ball. Both of us run and hide behind a garbage can. Emely tells me to peak and see if the old man is gone. I take a peak and see the old man waddling to the ball, picks it up and takes it inside looking back once to see if we were gone. I look back at Emely and tell here we should wait a few more minutes behind this garbage can because the old man is still there. Within those few minutes we hear the siren of the ambulance. Emely and I slowly creep out of the garbage can and watch the ambulance to see where it was going. I see that the ambulance was coming near us and it actually ends up to park in front of the house where the old man lives. We see the old man come out on a stretcher and he was put in the ambulance and was being taken to the hospital. That was another question to circle my mind. Emely thought it was the perfect time to ho run into the house and quickly grab the basketball. But her plan did not work out the way she thought. Right when the both of us stepped on the pathway leading into the house this long red carpet came rolling out of the doorway like a long tongue. At that moment Emely and I look at each other. “ I told you Emely this house is haunted,” I said. “ I feel like it has a mind of its own.” I said. Emely and I slowly walk onto the red carpet. As we slowly walk into the house we look at the ceiling and see a net that is full of oranges it looked like an esophagus. As we walk past the net full of oranges we see a long glowing tube. I looked at Emely and told her that this house is looking like a real human from the inside. She looked at me and started nodding thinking the same thing. We start hearing a ball bouncing and we though it was our ball and the noise was coming from down the tube. I signal Emely telling her to go down the tube. She goes down the tube and I follow. As we reach the bottom we try to follow the noise of the bouncing ball. We enter a really dark room and see something bouncing .Emely goes after it and catches it and realizes it is our ball. As we walk out of the dark room we try to look for a way to escape, but we could not find any. So we sit down and try to figure our a plan and within a few minutes we feel the ground shaking. What could that be? As we get up the house moves way to much and we start rolling and we get locked in a room. As the house starts to settle down a little I go up to the door and try to unlock it. And the rest is history.

The next day Corey and Travis convinced the couple that they saw a ghost the night before in the grove at 3am. The couple believed them and decided to wait for the ghost that night. The juxtaposition of the orderly house and the destroyed, chaotic neighborhood around it paints a stark picture that, at first, makes the reader wonder what what is happening. The clues about what has happened come out in the sixth and seventh paragraphs: "The house stood alone in a city of rubbleand ashes. This was the one house left standing. At night the ruined city gave off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles".…

I woke up in the middle of the night to a whistling sound. I sat up and looked around, it was 2:00 in the morning. Suddenly, a book fell off of a nearby shelf all by itself. I quickly got up and went to find Viviane. It appears she is having the same ghostly experiences that I had. We wanted to get out of this creepy house, so we ran to the verandah. When we got there we saw a strand of beads hanging on the railing. I snatched them up and they began to glow. All of the sudden, we were both picked up by two ghosts, that were both women. They hovered in the air for a minute then took off, carrying us through the skies. We came to what looked like another plantation, and they dropped us in a grass clearing, and disappeared. We were so tired; we lay down and fell asleep before we could explore our new…

The narrator, a childhood companion of Roderick Usher's, arrives to find an old mansion with "the re-modelled and inverted images of the gray sedge, and the ghastly tree-stems, and the vacant and eye-like windows" (Pg. 1535). His first view of the house comes in a large pool of tarn, or swampy, dead matter, surrounding the house. The narrator, who remains nameless throughout the story, immediately says that he is filled with "a sense of insufferable gloom" (pg.1535). This "sense" foreshadows the dark, dreary conditions to come in the story.…

    An Abandoned House

It was a hot, summer's day as I walked on the dirt road with only silence along my side. As I continued on the road I discovered it led to an old abandoned house. I couldn't help but stop for a few minutes and look at the details of the huge, strange shaped house. I noticed that it had been a long time since anybody even took a look at the house. The old house was left to die, alone, with no one to care. The paint was peeling, the windows were broken and the shingles had been torn from the roof, probably by past storms. What caught my eye was that the unkempt yard, it looked like it hadn’t been cut since the house was abandoned, the grass was almost my height and there was nothing but weeds everywhere. I imagined this house would’ve probably been huge and gorgeous in its days. It had three full stories. The fourth floor had an attic where you could sit and see the sunset on the horizon. The house also had a huge porch with large white columns making a fence to support the balcony. The columns were full of dirt; they looked less white and more brownish-black. As I slowly continued to walk past the house, I could hear the wind whistling through the broken windows. I could see the leftovers of the curtains moving gently in the breeze and the grass swishing left and right in the wind. As I was giving the house a final look I thought I saw a silhouette of somebody beside the window gazing upon me so I started to walk a little bit faster. As I walked I wondered how much longer this house could stand up to the rain and wind before it surrendered itself to nature or would people destroy it and replace it. Maybe it would just be left alone there and would continue standing quietly with its dark, window eyes begging for mercy.…

Alright. So I was telling you about that gym teacher I had who was a substitute teacher, and he always claimed that he… would get in the “zone” and be able to, like, see ghosts and stuff and communicate with them. He was at a Wawa one time, and he stepped outside and there was an old man out there, and he was like, “Excuse me, sir. . . I just need your help for a second.” He was like, “Yea, sure… whatta ya need?” And the old man was like, “Could you go into this store… and ya see that lady over there?” She’s like an elderly lady. “So could you like go over there and tell her that I love her?” And then he told him his name, ya know, whatever it was, and my gym teacher was like, “Yea, sure.”… So he went in there, and… he went up to the lady and he was like, “Hey, I had a message from John,” whatever the hell his name was, “And he wanted me to tell you that he loves you.” And she told him that John had been dead for a couple of years… He described what he looked like to her, and she was like, “Yea, that’s definitely John, and he’d definitely do something like that.” Umm, yea. So, I mean, I don’t know if it’s true or not, but, he told stories like that all the time.…
