YELLOW CABS

Manhattan is probably the city with the most taxis in the world. Almost all New York Taxis are bright yellow Chevrolet impalas. Night taxis are often fitted with a plexiglass partition protecting the driver from possible aggressions. Inside the vehicle, numerous stickers request the passengers to have the correct change, and inform them about rates on certain routes, and toll payments for bridges and tunnels linking Manhattan to other parts of New York and to the state of New Jersey. There are many yellow cabs in central Manhattan and chic parts of town, but they are hard to find in Harlem. In this "dangerous" area gypsy cabs operate. They are easily identified; they are not yellow, and not allowed to be so, since they pay no licence. They cannot work south of Harlem.
