Things I Learned About Myself
There are few a things that I have learned about myself when it comes to writing. The first thing would be that I procrastinate a lot. Second thing is, I always hand write my papers first before I type them. It's easier for me to think better when I am writing rather than typing. Third thing would be to always reread your own paper out aloud by yourself. I started to read my own paper outlawed not the long ago, it seemed to help me catch my own masticks.

If there was a competition for procrastinating I would always win. The thing that I have the most hard time with is the beginning of the paper. I never know how to start a the first paragraph or sentence. One of my teachers told me that your first paragraph or sentence tells the audience

In the beginning I never used to read my own paper. I would type it, have someone proofread it , and then pass it in. I never know how important proofreading your own paper was until my sophomore year of high school. My English teacher gave us an assessment which was to proofread our own paper three times before passing it in. When I got home I took out my paper and started to read it out loud. I noticed so many mistakes on paper that I could fix on my own. Ever since then I proofread my own paper at least twice before pass it …show more content…
Spelling some words is really difficult for me. I have been trying to find different ways on how to make my grammar better. One of the things that I am doing is. picking two words for the dictionary; and learning their meaning and spelling. I am still procrastinating till this day, but I have found a ways to not get frustrated and freeze. The first way is free writing. When I free write I am able to come up with more ideas, and with free writing you can write anything. Second thing would be writing my conclusion last. When I write my conclusion, first it easier for me to come up with reasons to support that conclusion. The last thing would be taking breaks every 45 minutes so that I can come back refreshed. This semester my goal is to become a better writer and learn how to do

Usually start writing on the opportunity I have to write. I just write whatever comes to mind even if looks like a child just wrote it, but at least I have something to start working with. All I need is to sit in front of the computer and set my mind that I have to do it without making any excuses and have a cold Pepsi right next to the computer.…

Writing is a way to express oneself and provide knowledge to the reader. Different forms of writing include poems, journals, and essays. However, over my years of being in school, writing has seemed to be an un-bearable chore to me. I didn’t grow as a writer and never will either.…

This issue kind of goes along with grammar, but I am usually really wordy when I’m writing. I think this is because when I’m thinking of what to write it sounds better in my head, but when I actually type it I go to fast and mess it up. If I slowed down while writing and re-read things, this would really help me with this issue. When I go back and look my papers over, I can find areas that I messed up the first time.…

Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…

I like to write so that really keeps me motivated. I also try to be really good about looking over my papers; especially reading them out loud helps pick out the errors. Some of my weaknesses as a writer are I’m not very good at making a start or an ending; they usually just get jumbled up with the rest of the paper. I also feel I am not very good with commas.…

After some years of taking a lot of English courses and writing classes, I got quite better at it, even better than some students that focused a lot at writing, I could just do essays and essays if I wanted to, but is not my ambition. The writing problems and mind-block problems came along during my senior year of high school. I was supposed to do a lot of essays to be ready for my college applications, so I practiced a lot every day,…

Writing, something that has never befriended me, will always be an obstacle in my life. For me, it’s difficult to just sit down at a table and write something interesting and creative. I try to do so every time I am assigned a essay, and sometimes it turns out to be successful, but most of the time it is unsuccessful. Every time I am given a written assignment, I go through the same routine: I sit at the table and stare at my computer with my fingers on the keyboard. I have noticed that I come up with a lot of ideas, but I focus mainly on how to structure them while writing. In three articles written by Anna Lomott, Marie Foley and Donald M. Murray, they all discuss different strategies on how to draft, structure and revise an essay. They all have taught me a better way on how to make my writing strategy more successful in college than it was before.…

Therefore, other students and I should learn to begin their writing process in advance in order to avoid the feelings of fatigue, guilt, and anxiety after turning in an important…

My goal as a challenged writer is to always improve and show my best work. Though it usually takes quite some time for me to produce my absolute best; I often come across problems that constantly bring me to a halt. One of the difficult things to accomplish in writing is usually overcoming writer’s block. From the moment when I first started writing as a child, my main problem always seemed to be writer’s block. However, over the years I’ve learned to somewhat overcome my problem by just putting down the exact thoughts in my head, on paper. Though, it not always easy or works according to plan, it still allows me to perform to the best of my skills. Overall when writing a paper, my first priority is to get the thoughts from my head into the paper. Even though, it may be difficult whether from grammar choices or writer’s block, in the end writing and finishing my assignment and getting a better grade is something I look to improve with this…

    Proofreading Out Loud

For starters, proofreading should always be done from a hardcopy. Having a pen available for markings prepares you for possible corrections. When proofreading out loud, I do find what also works for me is to read with the proper inflection in my voice. This will help with things like transitional words or when and where to use a comma or period. When I proofread out loud, I also try to do so at least twice. I try to pay close attention to my grammar and sentence usage and flow. In writing, two of my biggest challenges are using the correct verb tense and subject verb agreement. What reading out loud does is to hear myself and if something sounds out of place or awkward, I’m able to fix it. A lot of times when you proofread your eyes will read exactly what you wrote and it does so on the premise of anticipating the next word. The way something reads is quite different than the way something is said, or rather read aloud. A tip that was given to me a while back was that reading out loud allows you to catch things you wouldn’t normally. For instance, reading out loud, allows your ears to catch things your eyes tend to overlook. I have found that reading out loud forces me to not just pay closer attention, but when there is an error I am forced to slow down or stop. Plus this allows me to make the necessary changes on the spot like take out unnecessary words or add needed ones.…

    My Writing Struggles

A lack of patience is the main reason I have trouble with writing. Before college, I was unwilling to put a significant amount of time into truly understanding a topic, forming a credible standpoint, and editing the paper. Nonetheless, it was important for me to complete the writing assignments to have a grasp of writing skills. Although writing has played a significant role in my education up to this point, it will not necessarily be an important part in my career choice of nursing.…
