There were three main characters in this story excerpt. Here are their names and some information on what they were known for. Okonkwo was known as a fighter. While fighting, he threw a man called the cat, who had supposedly never touched the ground while fighting ever before. Unoka, Okonkwo’s dad, was untrustworthy and a failure. Unoka was known for borrowing money constantly, and never paying anyone back. He was hated by Okonkwo, because Okonkwo had no patience for people like his father. Lastly Okoye was the total opposite of Unoka, he was rich, and trustworthy. Okoye was known for having many wives. This is because the narrator says, “one day a neighbor called Okoye came in to see him”, (achebe,1958, p.1054). the plot of this story is that Okonkwo wanted to be a winner because he found his father intolerable, and was repulsed by his laziness. But since people kept giving Unoka money, Unoka never saw it best to get a good job, instead he chose to be a bread loafer. Since Unoka borrowed so many times without paying anyone back, one day when a man called Okoye came in his house to talk about random things, then asked Unoka for the two hundred cowries he had borrowed two years earlier.
