2a (i). There are two target populations for this experiment, psychics and the non-psychics. No, in this experiment, I would not sample the populations randomly. That is simply because the role of random sampling is to make sure that all variables among population has an equal chance of being chosen. In this experiment, random sampling is not essential because we are going to have only two variables, the psychics or non-psychics. 2a (ii). I am going to test 60 individuals in each group. In this experiment, the more individuals you test, the more reliable the data will become. Random assignment means to randomly assigning the participants into the two group, which I won’t be doing in this experiment because I would already know which group to place the subjects into, either the physics or the non- psychics. Meanwhile this experiment is about ESP between two definite groups of people (psychics and non-psychics), therefore, variation between the subjects is not significant. Also, as long as we can draw the difference between real psychics vs. non-psychics, our data will be not be interfered with each other. 2b. The only materials I am going to use in this experiment are the Zener cards and a person to handle the Zener cards, in an systematic method. In the original Zener card experiment, J.B. Rhine slanted off the patterns on the cards with his body language. However, in my experiment, I would conduct the experiment in a very quiet room with a wall between the subject and the conciliator in order to prevent as much flaws as possible. 2c. In order to control for guessing, I would set a time limit to say each answer and penalize for incorrect answers. It could be done by subtracting a quarter-point (0.25) for each incorrect answer, which will most likely be able to prevent
