Through collective and individual memory, one can perceive a greater insight. In developing such texts, composers utilize filmic and textual forms to achieve their specific point of view. The world on the Navajo Reservation is more corrupt than then past life of early generations. I would like to encourage our language to the youth, in order to save our traditions along with culture. In Navajo, the concept of peace is culture dependent, also situation . One of the themes that stood out when I was reading The Song of Ch’un-hyang was the idea that the values that a person has stands above any rules or commands that is made by those with authority. This is clearly shown in the narrative where Ch’un-hyang is punished for doing what she believes is right and staying faithful to her husband instead of obeying the orders of the magistrate to marry him. Not only are her values put to test by the magistrate but also by the way other characters talk to her. For instance, the slaves shame her for holding up to her values stating that she is stupid for believing she could talk like that to an officer. She holds her values even when she is beaten multiple times and instead of asking to be released from…

In The World We Have, Thich Nhat Hanh suggests having a mindful diet, such as consuming less or being a vegetarian, will save many hungry people in the world and can improve our environment of the earth (23). He claims that because of the unmindful consumption, the earth has a bad situation now and may continue if we don’t make a change. Then he advocates us to eat mindfully, and practice the “Four Kinds of Nutriments” so that we can limit our unlimited consumptions. In his point of view, we are eating and destroying the earth by ourselves because eating meat from animals can create many bad influences in climate change, global warming and even greenhouse gases (25). He deeply believes that by cutting down the meat of our meal or even being a vegetarian will finally solve the hungry problems in other countries and save the environment of our planet. For many people,…

When Ha was in Vietnam, she showed traits of being brave (Similar to other refugees), and caring. In Vietnamese tradition, a male must wake up extra early on Tet (The Vietnamese equivalent of New Years’) to bless the house with his luck. Ha decided to wake up even earlier than her brother, to bless the house instead. “Tap my big toe to the tile floor” (Thanhha Lai, pages 2-3) This quote shows How incredibly brave Ha is. By tapping the floor first, she goes against all of her family’s traditions because she is bitter that her brothers get to bless the family with their luck. Analogous with Ha, the Bosnian refugees also are very brave. One teenager named Emir, talked to Scholastic about life before the war, during the war, and afterward. While…
