Theunis Wessels: A Short Story
Theunis Wessels had a to-do-list to finish at his family's home in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada, and nothing was gonna stop him, not even a massive storm.

His wife, Cecilia Wessels, had no idea what her husband was doing, until her nine-year-old daughter woke her up from her nap, telling her “dad wouldn’t come inside,” according to FOX8.

That was when Cecilia caught a glimpse of her husband mowing the lawn... with a tornado swirling behind him:
"My beast mowing the lawn with a breeze in his hair."
The family moved to Canada from South Africa where tornados are not common, so Cecilia took a photo, not to show her husband cutting the grass, but to capture the large funnel cloud. She told Times Colonist:

"I literally took the picture to show

It was just going to be a simple scavenge at an abandoned military base. It seemed safe enough. There was a pack of old bandages in one of the crates, however, most of them were already rotten. Heading towards the 5-ton, the gorgeous M939 U.S. Army truck, he rummaged under the hood for a good battery back in its day it was probably used to carry personnel and supplies to destinations all across this land. Now it lies rusting, quietly whispering war stories in its carcass, waiting for someone to listen.…

At first glance, one may agree that Marie Umutesi’s autobiography is a truthful testimony about the historical event known as the Rwandan Genocide and its aftermath, but further analysis proves that the terms “truthful” and “testimony” cannot accurately describe Surviving the Slaughter. Using Jacques Derrida’s Demeure and Umutesi’s Surviving the Slaughter, one is able to analyze the meanings of these terms to reveal that, in the context of Umutesi’s writing, they are not completely valid, and the autobiography can instead be described as a genuine attempt to share her memory of her experiences.…

The Chosen Wolf, Adonis, stood overlooking the city as the brisk wind struck him in the face. The snow was so freezing that it felt like there were needles puncturing him with every step. He could see his breath in the chilly air around him. This was very outlandish to him, as he had come from a different world. He was from the planet of Takondwa. On this planet, the sun’s rays felt like hot coals scorching his fur coat. As the wolf was thinking about this, he realized he was getting too caught up with thinking about his home planet.…

I believe that Andy’s father’s solution to punish his boys was good decision, but also a bad one. Yes, it was a little harsh, but the boys were at fault for their immaturity, without considering how it could affect the Duvitches. “We held a brief whispering conversation; and then, egged on by him and quite willing on my own, I played a shameful trick on the Duvitches, the memory of which will come back to the end of my days to plague. Without considering further, I dropped the cake of soap into the tub of fish.” Because of this, their father was at outrage. When the Duvitches came to the town, they were known as the poor of the prosperous neighbourhood. They weren’t treated the same as everyone else, neither was included. “But the Duvitches were marked people. They were the one struggling family in a prosperous community-- and poverty, amid prosperity, is often embarrassing and irritating to the prosperous.…

How can one person decide to take a man's life? How can another man then decide to take a man's life in the act of revenge? Is there a difference to killing for the sake of killing or killing for the sake of revenge, or are they just two different shades of the same color? Many different people of today's society have differing views of what justice is, and how justice should be served to those who are guilty of such crimes as rape, kidnapping, or murder. "Killings", by Andre Dubus attempts to illustrate the life of the Fowler family after Richard Strout shoot's Frank Fowler. From the very beginning of the story, the seed of revenge is planted when Matt Fowler's other son, Steve says, “I should’ve killed him. He bit his lower lip, wiped his eyes…

“When I got down after roll call, I could see his lips trembling as he murmured something.” He said, “ One day you are going to get out of here and start a family.” I had got more angry to a point that I had to separate myself with my father. I became more silent with a blank face every single day. Caught some guards' attention but the guards know they can't do anything or even show a little remorse. One silent night I was laying down just thinking how things used to be before the war against Jews when my family was happy and not separated. After not knowing what happen to rest of my family members just only made my shoulders heavy and difficult time breathing. Day by day I get this feeling to just give up on hope and die. I cried every night hoping to wake up in a home with nothing but joy. I want my father’s words to become a reality, and I start thinking of ideas to escape this hell.…

If I was leaving home, and I could only pack what would fit inside a medium suitcase, the first thing I would pack would be my cell phone, and charger. These are essential because what if something happens to me. How am I supposed to get in touch with people? The next thing I would pack is money and credit cards. These are very important because if I can’t fit clothes I can purchase my own. The next items are tooth brush and brush I cannot have knots and hair everywhere that is not cute. First Impressions are important. Last thing I would bring is soap and water, to take a bath. I could also use the water to drink if I’m really thirsty.…
