Introduction
Background of the Study
In the fifty years since television became commonplace for western civilization, this one piece of technology has had incredible impact on society and basically revolutionized the way people see themselves and the world around them. The debate as to whether the impact is positive or negative has been taking place since the inception of the TV in the late 1940′s. Television’s potential to connect, educate and inform the public is often overshadowed by the lack of individual responsibility in using this modern-day miracle, therefore causing its impact on society to be viewed as negative.
It did not take long for the television industry to branch out and take full advantage of this technology’s potential. With the advancement in programming and increased financial support, the world and its marketplaces were brought into the living rooms of viewers. With this, society became exposed to commercial marketing, situation comedies and drama, sporting events, music and theatre, game and talk shows and world news. In short, people were (and are) connected to a world beyond their immediate community. Therefore, television has been a catalyst in creating the global society experienced today.
Television provides viewers access to arts, music, religion, new technology and information. Such technology is a venue for inspiration and enrichment and it also allows the viewer to become engaged in issues that have personal and societal implications. Viewers have been able to witness everything from presidential debates to man walking on the moon to wars being fought right in front of them. They have discovered ways to renovate their homes, look like a runway model and give their hearts to Jesus all in one afternoon. The potential for individual and societal transformation is incredible as a big chunk of life is captivated by the TV.
Television keeps us informed with plenty of helpful information. We are informed through the television of the latest news, weather, and information which are important in our daily lives. The television often acts as an almanac, dictionary, and an eye into the world around us. It informs us of the most recent happenings around the world within seconds. Through TV we can be warned about almost anything from a hurricane approaching to the fact that the stock market is falling. The television in today's society has become one of our most basic resources for information. We use the TV as a convenient way to find out some of the simplest information such as the date, time, and what is going to be on channel 2 at 8:30. Our society has designed its lifestyle around the convenience of the TV and the fact that it is so easily accessible.
Watching television entertains, educates, and informs. This three factual advantages developed, giving more and more advantages. The value of family life could increase when they spent time together, and the ability of television to entertain supports this condition to happen. There are shows which fit all generations and could make people happy watching it. When members of the family watch the shows, they laugh, and a comforting atmosphere is created. This happens to tighten the emotional relation between each member of the family. The educative use of television brings parents nearer with their children, the children could learn from the television and at the same time their parents teach them. This quality time is very expensive, and this could be created by watching the television. Other advantage of television is people could build a good and complementing relationship. The information people get from television is very fast, and the spreading information could start conversations that builds relationships between people. The three important roles of television give positive effects for family life and sense of community.
However, it is undeniable that television also gives some negative effects. Almost all TV shows are fiction, based on the author imagination, wherein some stories are the opposite of the reality. Children and teenagers might learn unapropriate things by watching television, thinking that it is the best and ideal condition of life. Children might learn dangerous activities while teenagers might practice them.

Statement of the Problem
This study is designed to identify the effects of TV to the behavior of the children.
Specifically, this study will seek answers on the following questions:
1. What is the personal profile of the respondents in terms of:
1.1. Age:
1.2. Sex:
1.3. Parents Occupation:
1.4. Monthly Income:
2. What are the effects of television to the values formation of the children?
3. What are the perceptions of the respondents about the effects of tv-viewing?

Objective of the Study
This study has the following objectives
1. Determine the personal profile of the respondents in terms of:
1.1. Age:
1.2. Sex:
1.3. Parents Occupation:
1.4. Monthly Income:
2. Determine the effects of television to the values formation of the children.
3. Determine the perceptions of the respondents about the effects of tv-viewing.

Significance of the Study
This study is deemed important in that it would benefit on the following:
Children. The study will help the children realize that tv-viewing is not always a good habit because sometimes it can displace their homework or activities, most especially if the program is very attractive or entertaining and informative.
Parents. This study will provide information to the parents that watching tv is not always good for their children, most especially if there is an assignment or other things that has been given by the teacher.
Teachers. This study will help them to be aware of the factors that motivate the children to watch tv program that could influence the latter perceptions and change on their personalities. It will also give teachers the knowledge on how to deal with and discipline their students.
Government. This would encourage government agencies like the Movies, Television and Radio Censors Board (MTRCB) to carefully inspect the kinds of programs broadcasted and to warn adults so they can either prevent children from watching programs with violent content or at least know what the kids are watching.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
This study will focus on the effects of tv-viewing to the respondents. It will determine the viewing characteristics of the respondents in watching television programs, particularly violence-oriented.
This study will be conducted to the selected Catarman I Central School (Grades 4-6) and UEPLHS freshmen students, chosen by the researcher in the school year 2012-2013.
Theoretical Framework
There has been considerable investigation of the effect of tv-viewing on children. Not all findings are consistent. Some theories suggest that television provides vicarious reinforcement; that is rewarding for the characters on the screen will reinforce this same type of behavior in real life situation.
According to Huesman and Eron (1986) television influence the behavior of children. Especially if the youngsters are heavy viewers of violent programming. According to them TV violence provided script for the children to act aggressive behaviors in relationship with others.

Conceptual Framework
This study focused on determining the effects of TV-viewing and the behavior of the respondents.
This study has conceptualized that there is a significant effect on the behavior of the children on TV-viewing most especially in terms of making their assignment, studying their lesson and their time spent on TV.
The researcher believes that in this study, the effects of tv-viewing affect their perception because their level of exposure depends on how they are gratified in watching violence-oriented programs.

Paradigm Independent Variable Dependent Variable

Hypothesis
1. There is no significant relationship between the effects tv-viewing to the behavior, health and to the studies of the students.

Definition of Terms Television. A one piece of technology that has incredible impact on society and basically revolutionized the way people see themselves and the world around them. Behavior. As used in this study, this refers to the way the respondents behave. Effect. The good and bad effects of television to the respondent’s habits. Age. This refers to the number of years the respondents had lived since birth. Personal Profile. As used in this study, this refers to age, sex and civil status of the respondents.

    Americans way of life has become entangled with television that an entire new approach of acting has been created.     Television is one of the biggest sources of entertainment we use today. From gossip, news, sports, or other relatable topics, it has provided avid watchers with something to look forward to watch every day. An American farmer by the name of Philo Farnsworth broke through the barrier of this invention by putting all the pieces together from other inventers with the same idea. These people include, Paul Nipkow, who invented the first rotating disk that would allow pictures to transmit over to wire; John Baird invented the first pictures in motion that were televised in Europe; Charles Jenkins who invented a mechanical television that he called “radiovision”, that transmitted the first moving images; and Vladimir Zworykin who invented the Cathode Ray tube which transformed the television into an electronic device.
