PROPOSED TOPIC: “History of The Great Wall of China: Myths, Tales and Mysterious Materials in the making of it.”
THESIS STATEMENT: “This study aims to feed the curiosity for knowledge and answers of each interested people about myths and stories on why was it built. Tales and rumors about why is it still standing for many centuries and what were the materials and secret mysteries in building it. The researchers will explain and give information by researching using websites, books and interviewing people. At the end of this study, the researchers will present a timeline for the tales of its journey, a list of the materials and secret mysteries to build the Great Wall of China.”
This research might shows everything about The Great Wall of China. This Includes the history of it that started last 7th century BC. That progressed throughout 206 BC. And it was proclaimed as the longest defensive wall in the world. To let the readers understand deeper about the Great Wall of China and realize the essence and the value of one of the World Heritage sites in the world. To take time to study and brainstorm about the said topic and to share their outlook and perspective about the topic with other people who also had read the research report.
CHAPTER ONE: HISTORY OF THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA
A. Building it throughout the years
The Great Wall of China had been standing for so many centuries. In fact it went through a lot of dynasties before we saw the current situation of it. It was constructed to protect China against of the attack of the north, and has the span of 4,000 miles (6,400km) across the northern China.
The first walls across some parts of China were built as early as the 5th century BC. But it was not built until the reign of the First Emperor, Qin Shi Huangdi, It was in the 3rd century BC that the first “long wall” was built. Most of Qin’s wall was made of rammed earth. And when it reached the 15th century AD most of the old wall collapsed or had fallen away. But, Under the new Emperors of the Ming Dynasty, a new wall was built and that is still the wall that is standing today that was constructed that time.
Fifth century BC, China was divided into small states. The rulers of many of these states had walls made up of rammed soil that was constructed to protect them from territorial attack.
The Qin dynasty, China became a whole country from 221 to 206 BC. The Great wall was restored and modified by the Great Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi that ordered a wall with more than 3,100 miles (5,00km) long that was built across the northern China.
The Han dynasty, the wall was strengthened and extended during its period in (206 BC- 220 AD) that totally reaches until 5,000 miles (8,000km)
The Sui dynasty, mostly, the walls were rebuilt, restored or repaired during the brief era of the Sui dynasty (AD 581-618). But after 300 years no further works were done on these walls.
