Thermobal Hoodie Case Study
Arriving just in time for the cold winter months, the lightweight women’s North Face ThermoBall Hoodie is designed to provide exceptional warmth in cold and wet weather. And it delivers—to an extent.

Powered by PrimaLoft, the ThermoBall Hoodie features ultralight packable, hooded insulation that retains warmth during all outdoor winter conditions, so that you can adventure longer come frigid temperatures. “Unlike traditional continuous-filament synthetic insulation, the small, round PrimaLoft synthetic-fiber clusters closely mimic down clusters,” the brand says, “trapping heat within small air pockets to retain warmth.”

Claiming to have “warmth equivalent to 600 fill goose down,” the hoodie even sports protection from wetness, boasting, “As compressible as down, the clusters of round synthetic ThermoBall trap and retain heat within small air pockets to provide effective insulation, even when wet.”

In terms of fit, the compact hoodie runs true to size in all accounts, making it a reliable purchase. Bonus: It’s flatteringly stylish, with more than nine varying colors, ranging from a youthful “Fanfare Green” to a cool “Coastline Blue,” to a chic black and gold print. No matter one’s age or taste in fashion, the jacket fittingly accommodates.

However, seams start of fall apart upon closer inspection at the material—for $220, this coat should never unstitch. And yet, it can. “The hoodie is super warm and does what it promises to, but the material on the hem of the sleeve started to pull only after just a couple of months,” explained Clapway associate Gaby

I know, I know. It is something that could have been avoided if I wasn't out shopping all the time. But tonight I'm stuck typing. Typing with my favorite cotton long -sleeved Bob Marley tee-shirt on and grey sweatpants. If this cotton shirt can't keep me warm, than I don't know what can. Australia’s cotton growers produce enough cotton to clothe 500 million people, every year. Some cotton products are padding in furniture and automobiles, cotton swabs, plastics, feed for cattle, oil, yarn, and much more! The only thing I ever held against cotton was that it shrunk my clothing two sizes down when I put them in the dryer.…

Fanger developed the model based on the research he performed at Kansas State University and the Technical University of Denmark. Fanger used the seven-point form of a thermal sensation scale along with numerous experiments involving human subjects in various environments. He related the subjects in response to the variables, which influence the condition of thermal comfort. Fanger's model is based upon an energy analysis that takes into account all the modes of energy loss (L) from the body, including: the convection and radiant heat loss from the outer surface of the clothing, the heat loss by water vapour diffusion through the skin, the heat loss by evaporation of sweat from the skin surface, the latent and dry respiration heat loss and the heat transfer from the skin to the outer surface of the clothing. The model assumes that the person is thermally at steady state with his environment. By determining the skin temperature and evaporative sweat rate that a thermally comfortable person would have in a given set of conditions, the model calculates the energy loss (L). Then, using the thermal sensation votes from subjects at KSU and Denmark, a Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) thermal sensation scale is based on how the energy loss (L) deviates from the metabolic rate (M).…

The temperature of the traffic police booth is found to be at an elevated level during hot sunny days, which may cause discomfort to the person who is standing under it. Lowering this high inside temperature of the booth is the central theme of this work. Semi-conductor based thermoelectric modules can be used to alter the temperature of the booth to a considerable extent, with respect to the ambient condition. For designing of this unit, water is stored in a reservoir placed beneath the booth and is circulated through…
