Therapeutic Communication In Nursing Care
Therapeutic communication is the basis of an interactive relationship among nurses and their patients (Younis, Mabrouk, Kamal, 2015). Therapeutic relationships are important to nursing care, because it establishes rapport, relates to patient’s experiences, formulates individualized interventions, and optimizes an individualized plan of care (Younis, Mabrouk, Kamal, 2015). Caring is a vital aspect of building a therapeutic relationship, for it allows development of trust and respect, accountability, situational awareness, open communication, shared decision-making, feedback, and education to the patient (Younis, Mabrouk, Kamal, 2015).     This model helps to establish a trusting rapport between you and the patient. When dealing with patients on an everyday basis the nurse is the one who interacts with the patient the most and sets the tone for the relationship. Compassion and human touch are necessary for positive patient outcomes. Following this module reminds me and helps me to improve my delivery of care by allowing patients to communicate feelings while I actively listen to their needs.
