Theory Research Paper
Theory can be defined as “a set of concepts linked through propositions to provide an explanation of a phenomenon” (Schmidt & Brown, 2012, p. 124). A nursing theory is a set of concepts, definitions, relationships, and assumptions or propositions derived from nursing models or from other disciplines and project a purposive, systematic view of phenomena by designing specific inter-relationships among concepts for the purposes of describing, explaining, predicting, and /or prescribing. Do you think all nursing research should be based on one of these theories? Why or why not?
There are many different theories that apply to nursing. I believe that all nursing in practice should base on nursing theories and research. The only way we can validate a theory is with research, therefore, yes, all nursing research should be based on a theory. The only way we can establish a nursing theory is from our clinical experiences and evidence-based nursing. This is where nursing counsels gather nurses information, complaints or suggestions regarding their actual hands on time with patients. I believe that every theory should be tried in an actual clinical setting before applied to new rule or change. Not all theories will provide protection, promotion, and optimize health and abilities, prevent illness or injury to our patients. Define the following terms:
