Theory of Management

Managers are used in all aspects of the business world, from hiring new employees, to getting money allocated properly, logistics and even firing low performing employees. Managers are widely used from high tier management such as vice presidents, CEOs. and even chiefs of staff. Managers affect all employees of a business, whether or not they are the top manager their decisions affect the lower staff. The lower staff and must abide by the rules and principles used by their managers. The point of managers is to guide their employees at all times, the mangers hire, properly train their employees, promote great work ethic and facilitate a work atmosphere that gets the work done, and they are the representative to the outside world.
"The history of management as it is now understood really starts with the creation of an economic surplus and the subsequent introduction of industrial manufacturing in eighteenth-century England"(Pearson, 2009). This is the time where the idea of division of labor was introduced so that employees that were doing a particular skill well, would cut down cost of production therefore raise profits. The knowledge of the human needs were being developed by different management theorists, in that there were certain needs all humans needed to be successful employees and the motivation needed to keep these people good employees. "Beginning in the 1970's, Warren Bennis pioneered a new theory of leadership that addressed the need for leaders to have vision and to communicate that vision"(Carpenter, Bauer & Erdogan, 2009). The history of management is always being challenged with new ideas, that help managers facilitate a work environment that produces not only great products, but great employees that want to work for the company and not just for a paycheck. History of management is centered with the basic needs of humanity(shelter, food, clothing), and then around satisfying needs(money, transportation, benefits). With all these needs addressed and satisfied, management theory goes into how to keep these motivations up, and progressively stronger for the employees therefore for the company. Management theory has changed a lot over the centuries, given that the business environment itself is always changing so managers have had to change from just keeping workers working in an unified direction with the company, to managers are now leaders that inspire workers to empower themselves.
Every individual in the workforce, may in fact manage or be managed by different schools of thought of management theory in their lifetime. There are certainly different views on how to manage people of different backgrounds, and different views of how people should be managed day to day. With these different thoughts and ideas comes the theory how to implement these ideas into everyday work environment, therefore it is important that individuals in the workforce be knowledgeable of these different schools of thought. In the auto parts retailer world, there are different companies but mainly this market is would be considered an oligopoly being that the market is controlled by a few companies. There are few management theories that are used in the company, a big one that is seen is the administrative management theory. This can be seen by the company in corporate offices would send out monthly reports of the company's successes by video media and the CEO would be the one telling the news, this gives the feeling of Esprit de Corps. Another theory in practice in the company, would be a that of systems theory. "Systems approach to management views the organization as a unified, purposeful system composed of interrelated parts. Hence managers have to deal with the organization as a whole rather than dealing separately with various segments of an organization"(Rao, 2010). This can be seen the dynamic world of automotive...
