I like your detailed overview of Dr. Buckley and Dr. Marszalekt’s insight on theoretical orientation. I agree with the two doctors that using a self-assessment and self-reflection as tools will help evaluate aspects of our theoretical approach in practice(Laureate Education, 2012). After several courses, i can fully understand that our theories orientation will most likely continue to develop after our graduate program. I am fully aware that as i progress throughout my counseling career i will grow, and will be exposed to a number of theories, experiences, and situations which will play a part in determining what my theoretical orientation will be.     Daniel Orozco’s short story “Orientation” is a comedic type of piece written to make you feel like you’re the main character being led through this maze of rules and cubicles and employees, as well as their lives all at once. It’s not really clear who is the narrator in this story, but what is clear is that Orozco chose to tell the story through the eyes of the reader.     I interviewed Daniel Nelson who is a senior psychology major in the research track. The psychology specific experiences he has so far in school was one over the summer which was with marriage works in Dayton, Ohio. He also worked with the domestic violence division which was a really cool experience for him because he was able to see both sides of the abuser and abuse and was able to give presentations to them on the topic of domestic violence and overall it was a good personal experience for him because he has family that has gone through domestic violence and he was able to come to grips with this reality through the internship. Ways he has changed as a student was in him becoming a lot more humble. Social psychology which is a field interesting to him, has been an eye opener experience for him because you’re so influenced by your behaviors and environment that most of his beliefs which include that he was so lucky in life and that he was in the perfect little environment that had all the answers and ended up realizing it wasn’t the case it became a huge thing to come across and in turn changed him to having a much more different perspective of himself. Things he has learned in being successful as a college student is doing everything you can and opening up as many doors as possible because most of a person’s best opportunities come unexpectedly. Two out of three of his internships came through connections and he never expected to get them, and he didn’t even have to apply to either of them and in general an aspect that he keeps in mind is that he doesn’t want to look back and say well I should have done this and that you as a student can never do too much. Daniels initial plans is to go to law school but down the road when he gets older he wants to pursue a PhD in social psychology or something related to that, or political psychology or political behavior.
